Thread: Am I clever or stupid? (Harvester maintenance issue)

OK. Lately, I've been trying something new. Rather than paying 1500 credits to get back a mineral harvester, I've been destroying it once the resource it's on is exhausted (assuming there's nothing else worth mining on that spot). When I find something I want to mine, I just build a harvester in the field. I have oodles of steel and low-grade ore, and finding 15 units of aluminum usually isn't hard. With the current death penalty (none!) I have no reason NOT to carry all my supplies with me.

Am I missing something? Is there a real benefit to spending 1500 to reclaim a harvester, as opposed to just building one from on-hand resources? It's about 200 odd resources, and at about 3-4 credits per resource average sale price, I lose perhaps 600 to 800 in sales, so, there's a net profit of about 700 credits.

Clever or stupid?

Depends how picky you are in your harvesting... I've got 2 mineral harvesters running side by side. One I made myself, using good quality materials, and I experimented the quality up. The other was bought at the bazar because I was in a hurry, and didn't have any low-grade ore on hand. The one I made currently list 4 minerals that the one off the bazar doesn't. And I confirmed with my survey tool that the resouces definetely exist under both harvesters.

So, for most things.. your stratagy won't matter much, and for a cheap harvester, it's not worth the creds to reclaim. But when you have that well-crafted harvester, which you need a crafting station to make, well, it may very well be worth that extra 1500 creds to keep THAT harvester...

Interesting.

According to the schematics, the only thing you can experiment up is hopper size -- and I've never come close to filling a hopper. (Given the resource shifts, I'd be a fool to pay for more than a days power and maintenace at a time, so, I empty them every day.)

But if you're correct, is this a bug, or an 'undocumented feature'?

acutly you can experment on hoper size,effiencey,and...somthign elese ..(if i was a t home id look and let you know )the reasion that you havent been able to experment on thoes IS becose of the types of materials you are using....

There's no real point in redeeding a personal harvestor no.

It is cheaper to destroy them and get a new one. (Even if you buy that new one through the bazaar.)

But you're not that clever, lots of people do this.

Mediums and large harvestors though, try this with those and I'll declare you insane.

OK, stupid question I guess. How do I destroy a harvestor without reclaiming the deed? If I just want to get rid of the thing and reclaim the lot space.

Thanks.

Interesting...

I have a lot of high-quality low-grade ore and steel now..I will build one at a crafting station and see what I can make...

" OK, stupid question I guess. How do I destroy a harvestor without reclaiming the deed? If I just want to get rid of the thing and reclaim the lot space."

If you have less than redeed cost (1500cr for these), turn it off. Destroy it, must select destroy twice, and it goes poof. If you have more than 1500cr it becomes a deed in your inventory.
