Thread: Why dont we have Certs for harvesting?
Generally speaking I have seen this complaint posted in other things along with other messages. so i have to ask in a very specific and hopefully well defined thread.
Basically as a Master Architect, I am not allowed to grab a T21 and start blasting the daylights out a creature, hell even as a Master Weapon smith, SOE is telling me I can make em, but using them I would damage them because they are just too complex for me to understand how they work.
The logic being that they don’t want everyone running around with T21 blasting the daylights out of everything.
I can appreciate that.
But what about harvesters, using the theory, a simple Mud Puppy (nick name for soldiers) should be able to even read the manual on operating a harvester.
The argument that how can a bounty hunter, scout are too simple minded to operate a survey tool (no offense) is valid, but they can drop a harvester have all the luxury’s and money that a miner can make.
Frankly to me this is the NEW TOP 1 priority for Architects, and artisans.
I am not saying the right answer is to prohibit the use of them, but certifications or some kind of balancing is needed.
Simply put, if I am too stupid to use a t21 as a master weapon smith, you have to be too stupid to use a harvester unless your have surveying skills.
with survey one, its my opinion that the amount of resources are less, and or higher find fallures.
i have noticed this on my 2 accounts, i have survey 1 and 4 on 2 accounts, after 2 hours, the guy with survey one is about 20% less then survey 4.
This would seriously hamper the already beleaguered Medic based classes. We are a crafting class that isn't based on the Artisan tree, yet most of us find that we must keep at least Novice Artisan just so that we can do our job. Players who do miningfor profit won't usually touch the rare resources needed for high level Doc and CM items because 1) they are a pain to get to, and 2) Docs and CMs generally don't have that much cash. They're better off bringing in high volumes of minerals to pass to the advanced Artisan classes. We can't depend on miners to sell the resources we need, just like we can't depend on the general populace to tip enough to cover the costs of the meds we use on them.
I love playing healing classes, and decided my end templatewill beMaster Doctor /Master Combat Medic. With all of the pre-reqs those require, I have 18 points remaining. I would prefer to leave them in Pistol I-IV and give myself a little bit of offense. Unfortunately, I need to use 15 of them just to retain the ability to sample from Novice Artisan.
Since Medics are required to use medicines to heal people just to progress in our class and function in the capacity we were designed to fill, we should also be able to survey/sample just like an Artisan can. We're just a different kind of crafter. We still have to go to an Artisan to have the harvesters and survey devices built, we just don't want to have to drag one with us out to Lok or Talus to help us place the harvesters properly.
I would think it would be pretty easy to set it up kind of like this...
Survey 2 - Personal harvesters
Survey 3 - Medium harvesters
Survey 4 - Heavy harvesters
Organic Chemistry 1 - Personal harvesters
Organic Chemistry 3 - Medium harvesters
Organic Chemistry 4 - Heavy harvesters
Musicianship 1 - Personal harvesters
Musicianship 3 - Medium harvesters
Musicianship 4 - Heavy harvesters
Novice Smuggler - Personal harvesters
Spices2 - Medium harvesters
Spices4 - Heavy harvesters
Most of the elite crafting classes has some prerequisite involving a base profession that would already get them the needed certs anyway. (except smuggler which is why it's in here.)
and the thinking behind surveying starting at 2 instead of 1 for personal harvesters is because of the fact that you're already pulling resources getting your survey skill up and those that only take survey1 won't get their certs until they either up it one more level or start gaining levels in their own respective skill.
i could like with this IF they farmed out survey to those lines as well
otherwise, medics still have to keep the artisan skill tree
