Thread: AFK macro sampling....
A few questions on this subject:
1) is it looked upon as bad/exploitive/wrong to do in general by the Dev's / players?
2) Is this new *found high concentration node (10 feet from current location) ..* particularly rich sample (the new pop up windows) desinged as a means to halt the macro sampling?
3) If the answers to both 1 & 2 are No. Can anyone type out how these macro's are set up ingame?
Currently I have bought a seconday account, My main is a Bounty Hunter who already has 4 harvesters dedicated to a real life friend who plays as a Master Armorsmith...to Help her out, and give me a break from the hunts, I decided to create a Artisan to drop more harvesters for her. But would also like to be able to *turn on the macro* overnight.
As it stands, in my opinion, no one crafter can do thier profession alone.. they must always have 1 or two other people assisting them with thier harvestor lots.
To store items and to craft items (of quality) you must use 1 slot for a House...a small WAS doable, but with the stored item cap now...you generally will need a medium atleast.
The higher end schematics require factory made *identicals* ...there is another lot.
at the pace a factory produces it's products, a minimum of two factories is a must...unless you have all day/night to wait for the multiple items to finish....there is yet another slot
You must have harvesters down to collect resources (unless you won the lottery and started the game with 1,000,000 credits..... there are another 2..3.. lots
To power these Harvesters, you need power...if your stuck on wind due to finances (sorry, you didnt win the lottery) You need a min of two harvesters , unless you won the daily pick 3, inwhich you found a source greater than 35% wind energy...which ofcourse is subject to change daily....
SO all in all, a *self sufficiant* crafter, will have every available slot taken up, with very little resource collection per day..and even less income per day ...until they reach the mastery in thier proffession.
So, anyone know how to right that macro out so I can cut and paste it for future use?

Self sufficiency is not the intent of this game. You arent specifically penalized for trying to do it all with no help, but your post is the downside to trying.. This is supposed to be a social game. Make friends and get good deals on power or resources or architecture. Make friends and do better in combat for the versatility and added firepower of grouping. Why do you think there is group xp bonuses, creatures too hard for any non twink to do alone, battlefields where solo is suicide.. Need I go on?
Apparently the Esc key will take down the pop-up, but we need Homer's little glass bird to peck at it for us! ![]()

Answers:
1. Yes. It is against the EULA to use or distribute macros that allow unattended game play.
http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Policies%20EULA paragraph 7, near the bottom.
2. The changes were designed to make sampling "more interactive" so it wouldn't be so insanely boring to do while playing. Generally speaking, more "interactive" means more difficult to macro - but that was not the design intent of the change or they would have made simpler and more direct changes to foil macroing.
As you pointed out, it is only your opinion that crafters cannot ply thier trade without the assistance of others. In fact, you can - but you just gain materials (and in some cases advancement) slower than those who get help.
You have 210 slots (with a Travel Pack & bank) of storage and 10 lots to use as you see fit. I made it through Artisan and Architect without a house or additional storage -you just have to manage what you hang on to. If you can't do it with your inventory, more storage won't help, it gets just as cluttered.
For using Factories (Structure Factories take 2 lots) I shut down 2 harvesters while I use the factory and put them back up when I'm done - ya, it's an irritation, but workable. Now that Admin permissions work, I can use a factory placed by someone else if I want, which will be much more convenient.
Getting harvesters up on your second accountslots or using them to place your houses and factories to free up the lots on your primary character is much more efficient than running an AFK macro to sample a single material, plus - it won't get you into trouble with the CSRs if/when they finally get around to dealing with macro'ers.

Only thing I can find there is :
you may not use or distribute macros or other programs which would allow unattended game play
Which of course is talking about 3rd party programs. If it was talking about the ingame macro system, then they'll make you break their EULA anytime you /follow someone then go AFK or use what they got. I just read a post from someone that said it was illegal to go AFK.
Oh yeah, finally found it. Check this link out to a pic from the beta boards.

If you notice there, one of the devs said the in game macro was OK. So unless they change it, then by their mouths it is ok. As for the EULA, that was the same part in the beta as well.
Funny thing though. The devs have answered and people still argue about it. The few comments from Holo says that they didn't intend for sampling to make more than harvesters. So then they lowered the amount that you can hand sample.
People complain to much. Devs give answers then ask the same questions over and over again. Then wonder why the devs no longer give out answers.
YOU MAY NOT USE or distribute MACROS or other programs WHICH WOULD ALLOW UNATTENDED GAME PLAY (all emphasis mine)
... and the broken record continues to play...

The answer to the two original questions is YES.
