Thread: Player Vehicles: The good, the bad and the ugly...Day 1 and beyond
Yesterday's vehicle launchproved once again how out of touch that SOE is with the Player Community.
First, let me say right up front that I am a Master Artisan and sold over 40 vehicles in Bestine yesterday. I had almost a million credits in sales, and would have gone over if I had any more vehicles to sell. That's a lot of vehicles, and a lot of credits...so what is my complaint?
Without subcomponents, vehicles are simply too easy to make. Master Artisan is not that difficult to accomplish, and allowing anyone and everyone to make something as complicated as an antigravity swoop bike by dumping some metal into thier crafting droid while standing in front of the Starport is (for lack of better words) stupid and shortsighted.
Why is it that crafting a one handed sword (one sword core plus raw resources) is more difficult than building a Speederbike?!?
The 'side effects' of such easy to craft vehicles goes beyond the lagfest created by the parking lot/junkyards that all of the Starports have become. An even bigger issue is that there is virtually no ferrous metal (iron or steel) to be found anywhere. The precious little that can be found has turned into gold.
I used to sell bulk resources and was besieged with /tells and e-mails from armorsmiths and weaponsmiths asking about steel. I had none to sell because every unit I had went into the 40 some vehicles I sold....even some of the uber steel I had been saving for a rainy day. It was simply more profitable to turn uber steel into an X34 Landspeeder than sell it to a weaponsmith.
How will this lack of foresight affect the other professions over time? It's too early to tell. I am sure that once everyone has a vehicle, the demand for steel and ironwill stabilize. But for now, I would expect weapons, harvesters, armor, droids and anything else made of metal to skyrocket in price.
Had vehicles been a little harder to construct, then everyone and his brother would not have been spamming every Starport in the Galaxy until the servers were bogged so badly that no one could move.
It is disappointing that SOE wasas unprepared for the player response to vehicles as they were to player cites, if not moreso.
Maraki has a point but this game is old enough now it needs to get beyond treating the whole game as Guinea Pigs. If I was willing to put up W hundreds of bugs just to try out everything first then I'd be on Test Center.
SOE needs to stop racing to put out new stuff and fix the stuff we do have. Take the time to make sure the vehicles will store before releasing them. Fix the stupid bug that prevents me from using the guild hall deed I paid 200K for, Etc, Etc.
I love this game and will keep playing it but I have a hard time recommending it to people as buggy as it is.
There was no real way around this other than making vehicles absurdly expensive for much less resource intensive. They are simply a very highly in-demand item. No matter how they were implemented you were going to see massive production of them as soon as possible. Sure adding a profession for it would have delayed the influx, but not by much
WOOHOO Jezan
yes i'm not the only one that uses my ingame name as my user name
He has a point now that a decent personal transportation has been implemented SOE needs to concentrate on geting the bugs out and possibly not release another monthly update for three monthes to get all the hotfixes and most of the update type bugs out.
i won't compline if they release a new profession but not anyhting like vehicles or major new content.
i think that the next major update should be the Space expantion and they better have that almost bug free if I have to pay for it. (Hint : Coupon for current subsribers!!!)
the first bug that needs ironed is repair costs on these speeders, this is worse than my Real life Auto Insurance!
oh and more storage space on the character!
