Thread: Power resource questions

I recently got into the power business, previously I had ran some fusion generators for someone. I worked my way into buying 8 of them for my own use. I have a couple friends that also run harvestors for me sometimes as well.

On to the questions:

1- Is radioactive the only power worth harvesting?

2- I have 12 wind generators running, and they are easy to run and cheap. I sell the wind power for only 1cpu. Is wind power ok?

3- What is solar power like?

Are there bigger generators than the little wind harvestors I have now?

or does it just go wind harvs, solar gens, then fusion gens?

Radioacive power is the most efficent because the units into a harvester is a fraction multiple of the potential energy. a PE 500 radioactive is 1:1 Higher PE gives you more units of power. say you had 100units of a radio active that has a PE 654. you would see some number of units more than 100 when you 'deposit' power into a harvester. I don't remember the formula
Remember too that radioactives are used by other crafts so there are multiple demands for it.

Wind power works just fine but the ratio is always 1:1 (so far )

3- What is solar power like?

Same as wind. 1:1

What you have to watch for now is the BER (Base Extraction Rate) of your harvesters *including* the power ones. A while back wind was always 5, solar 8, fusion 13. Then they got experimentation to work and now I have seen wind as high as 9. Fusion to 14 ( I have 1 prenerf 17. It's for sale if you have a LOT of credits.) so Fusion is still the best in general but the others work fine too. I have not seen a solar above 8 but it ought to go to at least 12.

In addition to the extraction rate of the generators, you might also want to look into the PE of the resource. The higher the PE, the less units of the resource you need to add to get the same amountin the"power reserves". For PE of 500 or less, one unit from your inventory adds 1 unit of power. At PE 1000, one unit from your inventory adds 2 units of power. Between 500 and 1000, it scales linearly between the two, so PE 750 would give you 1.5 power units per resource unit.

Radioactive tends to have higher PE than solar or wind. Plus, you can sample it (although only do it once since you get wounds and BF from "radiation sickness") to check the quality, instead of having to place a generator and harvest a unit like wind and solar.
