Its been down for several days now. Does anyone know when it is coming back? If its gone for good, we need to create a replacement. That site was a vital resource.

Swgcraft.com is down due to server issues uncontrolable to the site owner, Once again he is looking for a new home for the site. He said that it will be back up as soon as possible.

SWGCraft.com Temporarily Down - Last Updated 15th December 2003

As many of you have noticed SWGCraft.com has been out of action since Saturday 13th. Due to circumstances out of my control and without any prior warning the server that the site was hosted on has been taken offline. This now means that the site is homeless and currently seeking somewhere new to live.

I have already seen the massive response on the official forums to the site going down. Please be assured that the site is not dead. SOE did not ask me to shut the site down. It's not a finance problem. The server has not taken a nose dive. The dark side has not prevailed. Please do not put any weight behind the words spewed out by those who like to spread rumors when things like this happen.

Apologies for not filling you all in sooner but I am still not sure myself why this has happened.

I am currently looking at three options (in order of preference):

1. Rent a dedicated server myself. Unfortunately, I do not have extensive experience setting up and maintaining a secure and solid dedicated web server. I could probably Forrest Gump my way through it but there's a danger that my lack of experience will result in security and performance problems. If I go down this route I will need the assistance of an experienced community member who can spare some of their time to look after that side of things for me.

2. Find a community member who currently has spare bandwidth and CPU cycles on their dedicated server and is willing to host the site for a monthly fee that will go towards their hosting costs. This community member must have a good amount of experience configuring and maintaining a dedicated web server.

3. Approach the game networks and see about advertisement driven hosting. As much as I love the security of hosting on a games network, I'd prefer to stick with a non-advertisement driven site if possible.

Before the site went down it was running on the following kit:

* Intel Celeron 1.3GHz (the site was pushing this CPU to close to it's limits during peak hours)
* 512MB RAM
* 60GB (7200RPM) Hard Drive
* 700GB Monthly Transfer Allowance (the site was using ~5GB/day)
* Red Hat 7.2
* Latest PHP and MySQL
* Apache v1.3.27
* Shell access (very important)

If you are in the position to help me with any of these options then please get in touch. My old @swgcraft.com email address no longer works, for obvious reasons. You can get hold of me on a temporary email address I have setup: [email protected]

While this is a real pain in the ass, I am still in awe at the response I've seen in the official forums. Thanks for all the compliments - you guys rock!! :-)

Can't forget TC, just as important to the community as the rest

Please post your thoughts or suggestions... There is a clone thread in every galaxy as well... As per the immensely intelligent [end sarcasm] SOE forum admins demands.

Remember to write down your resources. We will need to update the resource database when it comes back up. We will want that info in there for refference.

Any temporary place that people are posting resources at?
I relied on soely on this place to find high concentrations since I can't afford the SP for Artisan.

I'd be happy to host it for him free, and have sent him an email stating so. You all are right, this is an invaluable resource.

I'd even donate if that would help. I used that more than a few times a day.

I rent a dedicated server from http://www.ev1servers.net- I would like to donate space for your site, but unfortunately your bandwidth needs (5 GB per day) and server load would adversely affect my paying customers.

The place my server is from has packages - with similar specifications to your previous server - starting out at $99/month (works out to $105 per month with tax)

Given the level of concerned expressed over your site being down, I would think people would be willing to pay some nominal amount to see it up and operational. (Perhaps setting up a PayPal account to accept dontations towards the site)

This is an unmanaged server (i.e. all they do is provide the box, power and a connection to the 'Net) If you choose to go this route I'll volunteer my services to configure it and maintain it.

I personally am connected with a compnay that has ISP relations, but I can't get free access through my company.

Rolassk is the forum member you should PM all support to I believe.

5gb a day is scary. 5gb a month is more what I'm used to with sites I've run.
