Thread: Novice Artisan and Newbie needs help
I'll get you started....
Train Novice Artisan if you didn't already create your character as one.
To gain xp in any of the first 3 columns, that is Engineering, Domestic Arts or Business, you need to gain general crafting xp. This is done by crafting items. A good way, as you mention, is to craft survey tools up to Engineering 3, when you can switch to personal harvesters should you wish.
Using a general crafting tool, or a weapon, droid and general crafting tool, make for example a mineral survey tool and either sell the tool or use practice mode to gain the extra 5% xp bonus at the loss of the item.
Examine the schematic to see what resources you need for the tools. You can then either look on the bazaar and buy the relevant resource or you can obtain them yourself.
If you want to get them yourself you can either sample for them, though I would say you aren't going to get nearly enough quantity this way and it will be painfully slow or you can use harvesters. Since you don't have Engineering 3 yet, either get to engineering 3 and make some for yourself, or buy them from the bazaar.
Rinse and repeat.
To survey for resources, click on the specific resource name. You should see a series of rings either go out or come in towards your character. If the resource is within range, you'll get a waypoint to the highest concentration (within the range of your survey device). Follow the arrow to the waypoint and survey again. Do this until you've either 1) reached the highest concentration point or 2) or found a spot greater than 20% to sample from . . . (think it has to be at least 20% for you to be able to manually sample). Then once you get to that point, just sample till you've got enough resources to build survey tools. As a tailor you're going to want to start gathering fiberplast. You'll find fiberplast on every planet (some are better than others depending on the resource shift). To get fiberplast you will need to survey for chemicals using a chemical survey device.
Another way to get the materials you need is to buy them off of a resource vendor or the bazaar. I almost always try to have some resources on the bazaar for newer players to purchase.
If you're on the Chilastra server, look me up I'll be glad to help you out. Balelair or Chiiron.
