Thread: Is survey/mining the only non-afkable skill?

So, I decided to come back and see how SWG has developed.

So far, looks like more fun, although the population has dropped on my server.

However, Im pretty much in the hole and my skills in artisan are to the point of 1/3rd Engi IV, 800c in the bank, and full up on survey.

I read through these forums to find out what I need to do to get my money and skills up to where I want them.

I saw how to setup a macro for /survey, and I saw that while surveying, pop-ups impeed the macroing.

I also saw that AFK macroing was ok in SWG, yet they have these pop ups.

Why?

I dont know if its legal (should be, its just macroing), but I setup a normal macro, in game, and another macro out of game to left click every 5 seconds to get rid of this pop up.

This is my temporary fix until I get my skills/money up to setup factories

you really should read a bit from the eula before you make posts like that. Read this, direct form paragraph & of the EULA (the one you accept any time you log on:smileysad :

"You may not use any third party software to modify the Software or to change game play. You may not create, facilitate, host, link to or provide any other means through which the Game may be played by others, such as through server emulators; additionally, you may not engage in matchmaking for multi-player play over unauthorized networks. You may not decrypt or modify any data transmitted between client and server; you may not use or distribute macros or other programs which would allow unattended game play."

3rd party programs are against the eula and using em is a bannable offense.

But you don't need em to afk sample. Put together a macro like

/sample;

/stand;

/pause 30;

/ui action toolbarSlot 00;

and put it into the F1 slot. The popups appear as normal, but by quitting sampling after each sample attempt and waiting out the delay it lets you continue even with the stupid popups. You'll need to adjust the pause tho, I havn't used this macro in months and I can't recall the exact delay needed.

Also can't remember if it was /stand or /sit that was needed. Meh, you can work it out for youself.

bah.. cut me off. anyway, if you usea third party, you should stop. might get banned (although as broke as you say you are it might not hurt either way =D). I recommend outsourcing to a third world nation to click the button.. or use a small electrical motor with a cam.. doesnt say anything about mechanical aids for afk playing. although they can boot your account for no reason at all, i.e. the catch all clause in paragraph 6,subsection 5. silly lawyers. anyway, all fun aside, you can use the ingame macro system to do it.

/survey

/pause 5 (5 i think.. might be more)

/sit

/pause 20 or so

/stand

/pause 2 (gotta wait for the animation)

then loop it.

the window for the super special bonus stays open, but you effectively decline the option, and start a new survey.also ya dont get any exp for that survey attempt. you'll have to close a buncho windows at the end of a run, but this lets you pay lots more attention to the tv. survey truly is the most boring thing to do.. at least you can chat i guess .

anyway, that might or might not be a violation. depends on if macro in the eula refers to third party macro programs, or the in game macro program, or both. i dunno. i only ever got to survey 2 before i realised i dont care about that skill. so use at your own risk. also, personal harvs are dirt cheap, and can be found on the bazaar on coronet.

p.s. survey is the most mind numbingly boring skill there is to level... aside from camping before the fix.. that wasrough too. just make everyone happy and make it so survey tools give survey exp while crafting... and perhaps making macros loopable wasnt the best of design decisions =D. its nice.. too expoitable though.

Ok, Ill do the macro with the stand/sit/whatever is needed.

But I still dont understand why we are subject to pop-ups like that.

As far as harvesters go. Yah, Im on my way to building some. I need the maint funds first though.

Ok, thanks for that info, that works much better, because I can alt+tab as well as not violate the EULA.

Another odd thing happened. I decided to cancel my sale of 1000 aluminum, and it never came back to my inventory. Its supposed to come back to my inventory, isnt it?

To give a reward to the people that don't afk-sample.

pop-ups aren't there to stop the afk-macroing, but to give some xp/resources bonus to the people that do it infront of the screen

When you cancel a sale, the item may go to your inventory but usually go to the available items of the bazaar or the stockroom of the vendor.
And it stay there for a limited period of time.

Yah, but its a chance that it might not work, and the reward is hardly worth it. 35 units or so... Plus Im capped on my XP for mining, so XP doesnt mean much to me now.

You asked why, I just gave you the reason.

Never said they were good or bad.

If you don't care about the pop-up, then don't care, afk-sampling with a macro work very well even if you have pop-ups from time to time, it doesn't stop the macro for a very long time.

surveying is very afkable, jsut put it on a 30 second timer to sit/stand/survey and goto bed and make sure to turn off your auto afk log out and afk tags if you don't put some talking inthe macro
