I just started the artisian skill and everything I try to sample....it says I cannot because it is above my skill level.....I haven't played in forever...decided to start up a new character....I don't rememebr this from before....anyone?

Is it saying "above your skill level" or is it more along the lines of "you only find trace amounts"?

There is a minimum concentration percentage you can sample from, and the exact value is based (somewhat) on your Survey skill. I think at Novice you need a 15%+ spot to sample, at survey 2 you need 10%+, and at survey 4 you can sample on a 5% concentration. Survey is one of those skills that I gain and drop as I need/free skill points, so I may be misremembering.

Try going to the waypoint created by the survey tool and surveying again. This should get you a higher concentration that was previously out of range. Keep following the "vein" of material until you get to a concentration high enough to sample.
