The items you craft "by hand", yes. Those you make in a factory, no.

When my husband was working his way through BioEngineer, he would craft cloth additives, and I would make synthetic or reinforced cloth with those additives. The XP he received when I did that was about 150% of what he got when he first made the additives. So he would craft until he had filled in about 2/5 of a skill box, and then my crafting would finish the box.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

I think both of you missed the point in the original post... I think they are asking if you receive XP when someone uses a gun (or any item) that you crafted. The answer is no. That was supposed to be the way it worked back at launch, if someone used your stim packs, your guns, your armor etc.. you would receive some sort of XP for that, but I don't think that it ever worked properly, and was removed almost immediately (back in july '03 if I remember correctly).

There is usage XP. The question is how much and when it is applied.

For example, make a food item. Look closely at your XP. Give it to someone to eat. Check XP again.

It does work, but it is difficult to see sometimes. With consumable items like food and spice, it is easy to see, for guns and armor, it is much harder to see, but there none the less.

Once you start selling items, make a habit of noting your XP totals before you log for the day then check them again when you login. You'll see some effects.

Take care,

I think you're confused with the crafting XP gained by factory production being removed back in '03.

I know for a fact that you get UXP for people wearing your armor because I dabbled in Novice Armorsmith for the F' of it ( I had so much Xtra XP and Sp's i figured why not)

So I made a suit of Mabari for my alt and did use the Nov Armorsmith for a few days and used my alt instead.

When I logged back in 3 days later, half my xp box for the next box was filled in and I had ONLY crafted 1 Mabari Suit.

Iam also wondering about UXP for ARTISAN...

I am thinking maybe the UXP only applies to ELITE crafting professions?

Well, they may have fixed this, but there was no usage XP the last time I talked to a WS about it, but admittedly this was almost a year ago (and things have changed slightly since then). If I am wrong, I apologize, but I have never seen an official post stating that is was put back in the game. I have never noticed it as a master artisan, but it might be reserved for Elite Professions...

Yes it is true, but it's a little flaky.

First, you only get "Usage xp" (uxp) for items you hand craft. If you made it in a factory, you don't get uxp.

For "charged" items (stim packs, food, maybe tracker droids) you get xp when the last dose is used up. So if you make a stack of stimBs, the xp gain is when the stack gets used up completely. For food at least (both chef and artisan) the uxp I've seen is 50% of the original amount you earned crafting it. So I make some travel biscuits (earning 20xp), give them to someone, they eat all 5 doses, then I get another 10xp. This same behavior is also seen when you use up components crafted by someone else (although the % earned may be different).

Second, it seems like you only get the xp when you're in the same general area as the person using your item. This probably has to do with cross-server communication (since each planet is actually running on multiple machines).

Finally (and I'm not sure if this is valid for everything) you may get uxp for using your own items. For food, at least, I earn "Food Crafting xp" (or general crafting xp for artisan foods) if I'm the one who finishes off the stack. In fact, when grinding I've found it's easier to make up food components (which have no filling) then eat them, getting 150% of the xp from just crafting it, more than you get if you just do practice mode.

The rules for continuous use items (weapons, armor, crafting tools, survey tools, etc) are probably different.

When I was working up to MA, I would check my XP before logging, and yes, I would gain XP while not playing. Survey tools and crafting tools seemed to work for the UXP.
