Crafters are not feeling much loved by the Devs and the CU right now. Trying to coerce us into providing content for combat players by hiring them as bodyguards is not going to do much for the game as they will find harvester runs as boring as we crafters do.
A simple addition to the game that would go a long way to show us that crafters are still a part of the game would be to add an armored surveying vehicle to the game. Rule sets could be created to keep players from using the vehicles as exploits in combat and if the speed is slow enough, players will find the vehicle to unwieldy for any other use.
My proposed Armored Surveying Vehicle
TX-130CEV (Survey)
Type - Repulser Lift
Armor - Heavy
Armaments - None
Speed - Slow
Crew - 1
Passengers - 0
Notes - Full range of surveying equipment (Gas/Mineral/Chemical/Water/Floral)
Includes structural construction droids
Forward Weapons replaced with sampling units
How it would work in the game is like this -
1. Either the vehicle would make the occupant immune to attack like in the Sorosub or the armor would be able to take enough punishment to keep the occupant alive while making harvester runs. If the armor route is taken, it should be repairable by an artisan.
2. I would recommend a vehicle certification for it of at least Artisan 4xx4 if not master artisan. It might be interesting to allow high level pilots to have it as a certification to drive it but require survey 4 to use it.
3. A variant on the whole idea could be a tracked vehicle but I could find no examples from the SW-EU.
4. The occupant would be able to place any harvester and survey while inside the vehicle. Sampling should require stopping.

that seems like a great idea. So of course, the devs won't even consider it becausethe ideacame from a player. But, yeah, that would be great.
