This tip requires losing about (haven't slept, orchecked the math)29 skill points.Grind 4/0/0/0 scout. The maskscent ability will keep away the usual creatures, and allow you to survey, plant harvesters, etc. It is VERY effective against most creature spawns, you can walk right up to them without problem. It probably won't always be effective against Kimogilas, Krayt's, etc.
Just a tip.

Only need to have explore 2 really and just get some +mask scent gear, but this isn't an option for me really since I mastered sw and sit at:
MArtisan
MMerchant
MSW
Archi 4020 (retired master)
Loved this character, but if I stay around, I'll close shop and all harvs for sure and only do space with him unless something gives on getting brutalized by bunnies...

Going 4000 Scout will help the Mask Scent last longer. I think it starts at two minutes and goes up from there. However, I'm also a Master Ranger with MS+ gear, and I've been having both camo and MS break a LOT.
So for the time being, I recommend another tip: hire a bodyguard.
