Thread: Removal of Schematics
Do you think this should be put back in the game?
I agree fully. there is no reason for me to be able to craft every type of item there is just because i took artistan. why should i be able to craft the parts of a gun and produce one if i am not a weapons smith?
i have trained up in the engineering skill to build my own resource gathering equipment and that opened up a lot of other things that i can make that i should not be able to.
This sounded better on paper then it did in practice. Consider this.. in example.. how would you like it if when you advanced to Engineering IV you could no longer make mineral harvesters? This was the kind of thing that was happening.
Revocation, as it was implemented, was pretty severe and could really gate a players ability to craft. Perhaps if they had been able to install a kinder, gentler revocation it would have worked out. Unfortunately, the word was that there was no easy way to modify the existing system other then to remove it completely which is what they did.
Now add on to it the problem of getting just the right part by the crate for your schematics and you run into further trouble. Buy a bunch of parts randomly off the market and you are stuck making randomly experimented items. On top of it, it can be more challenging then one would expect to find someone interested in making the parts.
People were feeling that they were being punished for leveling up. Any revocation system that came about in the future would need to address these issues.

I'm actually in agreeance with the dev's on losing schematics. Since most of the players who get to be high-level crafters with every conceivable item in the game (weaponsmiths, architects, etc.) their ability to craft the "newbie" items would give them a monopoly on the market. They'd be able to craft the lower-end stuff at much higher quality, and charge less than the newbie artisans trying to get their feet into the global market's door.

So this means people will have to choose what they will want to be able to craft and won't be able to craft it all. You can also have the inventory increase slightly depending on your skill level.

This is actually exactly what I was hoping for before the game came out.
ONLY if i had to choose, I'd go select the schematics i want to keep. but personally think any form of a revocation isn't exactly fair to the player.
I understand the need to aid the incoming player, BUT why punish the player thats been there since the beginning. He deserves his rightful place on top.. Look at the modern global market.. It Isn't easy to get a foot in the door so to speak, and as it stands, reflects that completely.
I have never liked the idea of playing to the newbs, in the end it just creates a lot more people that whine and complain, and next thing you know here comes the bat..

What I am envisioning is a schematic inventory. Players will get to decide what schematics they want to keep as they move up and what schematics they want to get rid of. Nothing is automatically revoked and the ability to specialize is up to the individual.
Feel free to expand or add suggestions.
