Do you get UXP for the stuff you make and use for yourself? Or is it just when others use the stuff you craft.
Actually you DO get UXP for using your own items.

Bianca, can you please give me an example of how we get UXP from using our own crafted items? I haven't seen it, but I'm no expert either. Any help you have would be appreciated. Thanks.
I believe Bianca is right. After crafting some weapon powerups, i put them onto my CDEF pistol. I went around and killed a few things, and then noticed that my XP went up.
Well, it would make sense from a logistical standpoint if you got UXP for certain things and not others. For example, if you're firing a blaster, you have to be fighting someone. You can't really powercraft by firing a blaster for more UXP. You can't craft while fighting, and there's not always something convient around to shoot at. Plus, risk is involved.
However, for food, you could sit around crafting and eating in between crafting sessions all day (as long as your meter held out). If weapon mods' UXP was based on attaching it to a gun, you could make crappy CDEFs and crappy mods all day and hook them together to powercraft faster. UXP is supposed to be about using the stuff that you make, not encouraging people to make consumables so they can solo powercraft faster.
