Thread: To correspondent: Add new specialist: Harvester
To make a better economy line in the SWG system, it would be nice to create a specialist in the resource commodity.
This would be a specialty above "Surveying". This specialty would have 4 lines : Harvesting, Farming, Refining and Surveying (lvl 5 to 8)
Harvesting line: The"Harvester" would be the only class that would be able to use mining harvesters / farms(either personal or larger ones). That would mean taking them out for all other artisan and other professions. The size and type of harvester would also come as level progress. Also, some resources will only be available with the harvesting skill.
Farming: This specialty would have flora farms but should also have livestock for bone, meat and hides. Would be nice to see little farms with NPC livestock (white dots) running around.
Refining: Making a base resource into something better. Example: mixing steel with copper to get the best (or worst) of both resources. Same could apply to gas, organics (cross-breeding, etc) or even energy.
Surveying: Large surveying devices that have range from 1k to even several Kms (orbital surveying?)
This would add a specific line to the economy specialized in giving the SWG population base resources to make the other stuff in the game.
This was, in escence, the intent of the Miner profession as I understand it. They dropped the profession for release for some reason. Some people cite a comment from the designers that they didn't want to have professions that consisted solely of skill-mods at each tier of advancement.
FWIW, I think that the reasoning there is a bit of a cop-out.
I'd heard they'd dropped it for being boring. ![]()
Of course, I'm acting like a miner right now anyway, harvesting and selling ore, to get money, since sub-Duster tailors generally don't make much. ![]()
