Thread: HELP ME! ANYONE!! PLEASE!!!
hi, im an artisan and i just started playing a couple of days ago, but i totally dont know what to do next! i know how to survey, but i dont know how to get more draft plans and i have no clue how to get a harvester!
p.s. please help me! please reply as quickly as possibly, please.....
You need to take Eng. 1 and Domestic Arts 1 to get more things to craft. Eng. 3 is where you start to get your deeds for harvesters, but you will need the Structure Crafting Tool to be able to craft those. If I can remember (I'm at work and not ingame), they are the mineral and micro flora harvesters and the wind generator. Then you can put them down where you want to obtain your resources. Or you could buy a harvester from the bazaar and put it down, but they can be expensive. Up to you. Once you get Eng. 4, you get more deeds to more harvesters.
Hope this helps.

There are two kinds of artisan XP, okay, 3, but two main kinds. You have general crafting XP(GCXP) that you get by making things. There is also Usage XP that adds to this. So make things and get people to use them to maximize your xp. There is also survey xp that you use to advance your surveying skills.
You get more schematics for every level of engineering or domestic arts that you train in. So just make things and sell them for xp. If you want more xp, check the "Practice" box at the end of crafting. You'll get 5% extra xp, but not the final product.
Once you have enough XP to advance a skill, you can either buy it from an NPC trainer, or ask another player to train you.
You can make harvesters starting at Eng 3, but they will be more trouble than they're worth early on. You have to place them more than 1000 meters from a city, and you have to also collect power (wind harvester) and pay maintenance fees to both to keep them running. You can buy one on the bazaar for around 1K credits, if you really want to try one out. Remember to place the wind harvester first to get power. You'll want at least 1000 credits to dump into it right away. Once you have some power and another 1000 credits for fees, place a resource harvester.
Please forgive the long post...
They have all given good advice but from someone that was completely lost on the first day I played (I didn't know trying to shoot CorSecs with a CDEF rifle would get me cloned...), here are a few things that might help you get started. I will assume you have no money.
1. Everything you make requires a resource. Select your crafting machine in your inventory, hold the mouse button, and select Start Crafting. Select what you want to make and note which resources and the number of each resource that are required. It should list 8 metal for x, 12 metal for y, etc. Next, you have to get resources.
2. You have a mineral survey device. Click and hold on the device, select useand you get several options. One includes selecting a resource. Quality of resources does matter but that is something you might want to worry about after playing a while. Select a resource and click the survey button. It will set a waypoint (beacon) to the highest concentration in the area as well as overlay the concentration in a percentage. Close your survey device and go to the waypoint. When you get there, repeat until you either are on the highest concentration or you have gone as far from town as you are comfortable. If you survey and no percentage shows in the display, select another resource. If the percentage is small, try some of the others to see what has the largest concentration near you.
3. Gather materials. If you start as an Artisan, you have survey and sample on hot keys. You have surveyed and now it is time to sample. Don't let the term fool you, sampling is simply turning your character into a virtual mining machine. Select sample from your hotkeys or type /sample in chat. You should kneel and start collecting resorces. If you "Fail to find a sample", just keep sampling. You will not mine out an area although resources do move from time to time. You can check your inventory and see a container containing your resource and the quantity in the container.
4. Craft. Now that you have resources, go back to town and position yourself near a Public Generic Crafting Station. You can't actually interact with it but being near one will allow you to experiment. You can also craft in the field but experimentation is not available. Experimentation can allow you to improve the item you are making. Open your inventory, select your crafting machine, and select Start Crafting. You can now select a schematic by double clicking on itand drag and drop resources to the correct locations. If you hover over a component in the schematic, it wil tell you that 8 units of metal or 4 units of hide etc. are required and what purpose they serve in what you are crafting. Once you have all of the resources, click Assemble. You will get a message stating what level of success you achieved and at that point you may get an opportunity to experiment. You should do so using 1 point at a time. When your points have been exhausted, select Done Experimenting and you will get an option to create a schematic or prototype. Schematics are used in factories but since you don't have one, create a prototype. You will get an option to name the item and in the lower left of the window is a check box for Practice. When checked, your resources are used but no item is produced. You do get more xp for practice. The number of seconds until the item is finished will count down in the top right corner of the icon for your crafting machine and appear in your inventory when it hits zero. You are done.
5. There are several different ways to get resources. You can buy, trade, or gather them yourself. Buying of course requires credits, you can sometimes trade one resource or goodfor another, or you can sample and hunt. Some items will require organic items and those are most commonly gathered from the animals that are hunted. You will require novice scout training if you wish to harvest your own animal resources and you can only harvest what you kill.
6. As mentioned, as you get more expirence, you will get more schematics. Generally, the more complicated theschematic, the more xp will be gained. A novice Artisan will have only a few schematics -- several low level weapons, powerups, crafting machines, etc. Scouts have a separate set, medics another. As you get trained on higher levels of the Artisan tree, more things become available to you. Eventually, you can craft your own harvesters so that you don't have to sample. You can also craft specialized crafting machines (such as armor, food and chemical, structure and furniture) that provide schematics for items that can only be crafted using a specialized machine.
7. Running delivery missions is a slow but relatively safe way to get credits until you can place stuff on the bazaar for sale. You can also get novice marksman training and start getting proficient with a weapon. Even if you want to be a full time crafter, I would recommend this. Survival is very important.
Don't let the crafting grind wear you out. Take breaks from time to time and look around. Do something fun. Explore. Join a group.
Good luck to you.
