I have a question about the mineral Survey tool (or any survey tool), When I first open up the mineral Survey tool, it lists all the minerals that I can survey for.

Now, with that said, what if I dont see the mineral I need on that list?

Does that mean that mineral is NOT on the current planet I am on?

Or

Does it mean the list will update as I move around the current planet I am on?

Bascially, could I travel from Planet to Planet and just open up the survey tool to see what possible minerals I can survey for?

The survey tool lists all the resources available on your current planet at the current time. AFAIK there isn't a "regional" cutoff, so the resources in Mos Eisley will be the same as in Anchorhead. If I've been working under a wrong assumption, someone please correct me.

So yes, if you're looking for a particular type of resource, you can step off the ship, open up your survey tool (since the landing area count's as outside), and check the list. If you don't see what you're looking for, buy a ticket to a new planet and repeat.

Also, since the resouces shift with time, you can also go back in a week or so to see if anything new has popped up.
