Thread: Please allow us to view resource statistics from the Survey Tool
I realise that half the fun is going to a planet and spending entire days looking for, and sampling every resource in the survey tools just to see what is worth harvesting, but wasting 6 of 8 days on wild-goose chases seems opintless and non-fun.
If i am looking for a polymer that has an excellent decay-rate or overall quality for some armor i am making, i want to be able to find it in a realistic time-frame.
I dont mind paying 10k credits hopping from planet to planet looking for the materials i need, because thats all part of the hunt, but wasting 15 hours on a planet that doesnt even have a single resource i can use is frustrating to say the least.
Please allow us to examine resource specifics from the survey-tool interface.
Thank-you.
It shouldn't take 15 hours. Heck, doesn't take NEARLY that long for me to completely update the stats for all of Corellia on www.SWGcraft.com
What I do when I detect a resource shift is pull out all my survey tools 1 by 1 and make a list of EVERY available resource. I go to www.SWGcraft.com and mark "unavailable" anything not on the list. I think check the "current resources" and check those off my list. As an artisan, it's nothing for me to drop a couple of harvesters, so I'll hunt down 1 mineral, drop a harvester with like 10 power & 10 credits and set it to sample that mineral. I then have it sample the next "unknown" and so on, until there aren't any more. Pull 'em all out of the hopper, examine them to get their stats, destroy the harvester, and move on to the next site (typically a chemical, then an flora, then a gas, and so on). While the next harvester is running, I update www.SWGcraft.com with my new finds and continue. When everything is updated, I can use "find resources" against the current planet, and whatever stats are important to me, to see what's available.
The same process can be done as soon as you make planet fall. (And, in fact, I did when I went to Talus today.) Write everything that's available, update www.SWGcraft.com, and start harvesting for real. You can also use that site to plan your trips, but I'd advise taking anything marked as available more than 5 days prior with a grain of salt. (May have rotated out and nobody's updated yet.)
I'd love the survey tool to show resource stats, especially since all resources of the same type have identical stats - if different veins of the same material yeilded different stats, that would be another thing entirely.
I've noticed that resources of the same category (Steel - Duralloy for example) seem to have similar attributes - even though it will be a different resource. (At least from my limited experience, I've yet to perform exhastive survey work like you describe) Is this a fair observation?
Actually it does take me 15 hours to resource every planet, because the resources for Bria are sparse at best.
We need a way to find out the stats on the minerals before wasting a week or more looking for the right one, only to have no way of getting any because the resources shifted in less than 6 days.
Hi pals.
My ideas is better than use the Survey tool. That info should go to the datapad under a 3rd tab named resources. Each time you sample a resource (no matter which one, organic or inorganic) the data is downloaded to the datapad along with the planet name and the WP to the higher concentration you'd found.
Using the data this way is better 'cause gives you access to the data even inside an structure. Use the survey tool force you te get out of a structure to open the ST.
On the other hand, this datapad feature can be used by scouts that hunts down for bones and hide, even meat, for artisans and medics. And what can I said if the scout is artisan too?
The best place for resources statistics is the Datapad.
