Thread: Usage XP does any have any REAL answers
What does/does not give UXP?
How do we know we're getting it - is there a message I can turn on?
When do we know we STOP getting it for any given item?
Most importantly:
Some posts were of the opinion that you had to sell stuff to get UXP for it. Is this definitely the case? if so what counts as selling? If I trade someone a survey tool for a load of metal resources thats a sale in my opinion or do we have to trade money? Or sell it on the bazaar?
Wow - look at all those questions marks, urm - any answers/guides much appreciated, the holocron and the manual are a bit thin on this subject.
You get usage XP for items used by other players. The items do not have to be sold.
There is no message, but if you watch your General Crafting XP in the Skills Window you will see it occasionally update.
There is a different amount of UXP bonus for different items (don't remember these exactly):
Consumables (foods) get 100% (you get the same XP as you did crafting it, as UXP)
Weapons, Tools etc. get 150% I think. (so if you got 100xp for crafting it, you'll get 150xp as UXP).
When the other player uses the item, the UXP from it "trickles" over to you - it doesn't come in one lump unless it was a consumable. This should happen whether you are online or offline, but is currently bugged - so you only see it if you are online and near the person using your gear.
As designed, it's a nifty bonus if you are not in a hurry to advance - with the current bugs it's not even worth thinking about.
The GCXP you gain using the "Practice" option will completely overwhelm any UXP you get, so by the time the UXP starts to trickle in - you won't need GCXP anymore anyway. :-)

There is no message, per se, but I believe there is a little -beep- that goes off when your General Crafting XP goes up. (I don't have any confirmation that this is true, but it seems that when I ever hear this beep, the xp increases.)
I'm glad to hear that you don't have to sell an item for UXP. as a novice artisian, i have to give everything i make away. it just seems that there isn't anything of value i can craft yet.
so i grind away at bone armor and cdef weapons and just give them to any noob i come accross. it seems the only way i can gain any uxp.
maybe i wrong? can someone tell me if there's something i'm overlooking? i'd love to be able to craft something that is actually of value. it seems that with ENG III and DArts I, i'm only crafting for experience.
1) Find another artisan.
2) Each of you make a bunch of fireworks.
3) Trade fireworks with the other person.
4) Stand next to each other and shoot them all off for a big fireworks display.
Since you will both be logged in and in the same geographic area, each of you will get UXP for the fireworks that the other used.
UXP doesn't go up when you're logged out?
man.. i've been out of town for a week, and i was looking forward to having enough GCXP for ENG IV.
(this is a bug though? not 'working as intended', right?)

I've had mixxed results with this... sometimes, it will go up, sometimes it doesn't. It's still definetely bugged, they've acknowledged this, just havn't fixed it yet.
UXP is pretty much gold dust for the high level crafters imho - getting an elite professions is doable but right now I'm a novice weaponsmith and looking at the first level of the trees thinking this is going to take me years!
Especially considering the fact that I only have about 5-6 items to play with to gain that XP - usage is seriously something that needs to be fixed right now

Here's an idea: crafting tools. Last night, there were absolutely no crafting tools available for sale on the bazaar in Dearic, Talus on my server. I talked to at leasttwo other players, in addition to myself, who were looking for one. Make some tools that non-artisans need but can't make themselves, like generic; weapon droid and general item; and food and chemical. Experiment on them all you can to make them as good as possible. However, they won't have to be uber to sell well. Also try making and sellingsurvey tools, especially mineral, flora and chemical. As soon as you get Engineering 4 and Domestic Arts 4, make weapon powerups. Use good resources and experiment fully. They'll sell like crazy.
