The part of the EULA that forbids "macros or other programs which would allow unattended game play" refers to 3rd party macro utilities (like AutoIt), not the in-game macro ability.

AFK Macro Sampling has been around since Beta, and the Devs have always knows about it. The only thing that seems to have surprised them is that so many folks chose that method instead of using Harvesters. In response, they make changes to make AFK Macro Sampling less lucrative, and (presumably) Havesters more attractive. Ifthey REALLY wanted to stop AFK Macroing in its tracks, all they need to do is cancel the action after a certain period of inactivity (forcing your character to sit down would do it), orlimit the /pause duration to 10 seconds, or any of a host of simple changes. The fact that they haven't, and that the Devs have not stated it is cheating, means it is acceptable.

Believe what you like.... but ask yourself this: How many people have you seen obviously AFK Macro Sampling? How many of those people have been kicked out of the game? If it is obvious cheating, then why aren't they getting the boot?

Nope, it also mentions 3rd party utilities and a lot of other things that can terminate your service but it is not exclusively about them. Nor is the line about putting undue stress or load on thier servers (as determined by them).

Bottom line, they decide if you are violating the intent of the EULA or not - not the player. If you are playing in a manner that they feel is "inappropriate" (whatever that means to them - probably that you're losing them money) they can cancel your account.

The reason they aren't doing much about it now isbecause they have bigger problems to attend to and the server stability bugs they are working on fixing (disconnects, server resets etc.) are actually stopping many AFK macroers macros - so they don't build up enough connection hours to set off the alarm.

Once the servers are more stable and a macro could run successfully for several days, you'll see some activity.

Just because it hasn't been changed doesn't mean it won't be. And just because something is presently possible, doesn't prove that it's honest - or fair - or non-cheating. They'll get to it. And just because you say it's a 'simple change' doesn't make it one. They've got quite a few other pots on the stove. Let's just hope that those who haven't taken advantage of the current system won't have to pay too high a price for those who have. I notice you didn't respond to any of my points about the present costs and risks of resource gain? Let me ask you a simple question. What does a person using a harvestor gain over someone who uses afk maco-sampling? Or perhaps you don't think paying maintenance and purchasing deeds should give someone an advantage?

Ok my take on this is a little diff than everyone calling it cheating and it stems directly from conflicting information from the devs, Holo says No. But.....

In game AFK Macroing is completely legal according to Sal during Beta. Until SOE comes up with a definitive "This is not legal" everyone can whine and gripe all they want, but it will not stop. Person A says Yes, Person B says No... Which answer is correct? Well that pretty much depends on wether or not you AFK macro I guess. Sal states that IN GAME MACROS are LEGAL.. end of discussion as far as I am concerned until SOE changes policy.

I Pulled the above pic from http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=general_any_topic&message.id=1780which pulled it from the beta boards.

Yup these people got nothing better to do than whine about something that really doesn't matter.

And as I said before, I am sure they lower their battle fatigue watching/listening to AFK macroing Entertainers.

People are just using the commands and macros made available to them. Why else is it there?
