Thread: Question of the day 7-28-03 Harvester Maintance Too much too little?
I must agree on a remote monitoring system... it is a major pain without one.
I must, though, disagree with a remote payment system. I t would be nice, but frankly, it is not needed. I think most people spread out their harvesters way too much. I personally have them close to one another (1 wind, 2 chemical, 2 mineral)
I do think, though, that maintenance is way too high... I have a hard time going online EVERY day for 3+ hours just to keep my harvesters running. (So much for SWG tailoring to the Casual Gamer...)
Maintenance and power requirements for harvesters are just right.

I don't thinkthe running around isuseful, but it at least makes it a little risky and a little bit of work to mine materials. Otherwise, every person in the game with 2000 credits to rub together is going to be plopping down harvesters and mining their own material. If there's no time factor involved, you'll have everyone from scouts and marksmen to dancers and musicians mining and selling material. No thanks.
Good reasons, thanks!
With wind power being in such low concentrations (I personaly haven't seen over 65% on Naboo on my server) I think the cost for them is very high. I also believe that the formula for power and maintanence should be calculated using the same unit of time measure. I think the personal harvesters are also priced slightly high.
Eventually artisans who wish to specialise in more than one artisan elite profession will be forced to release their fighting skills and with the SWG market so saturated with money for combat classes and very slow decay of weapons and other high priced items it will soon cause artisans to have little to no cash on hand to feed to harvesters.

3. I do support the idea of remote monitoring. Why not? I can remotely monitor my house, in real time right now.
Uh yes actually you can, its called a home security service. In many cases they monitor for theft, fire, carbon monoxide etc. etc. and you get informed if something happens like a break in. Same situation, the harvester is pulling out X resource when all of a sudden it doesn't anymore hmm somethings wrong I'd better inform the owner.
We don't in real money in SWG. Everything is in credits and realisticaly is taken care of from our datapads. So the idea of paying our maint. fees remotely shouldn't be an issue since its a datapd function or should be...

Yeah, but there has to be SOME risk other than your initial run to place the harvestor. While paying remotely makes sense from an IC stand-point, it just doesn't make sense from a gameplay one...
Yeah, carry it one step further. What you're saying you want to do is move money from your account to the harvester account and that will make it work. That's not very realistic either.
You make certain conventions for gameplay. Money for maintenance is one. Having to visit the harvester in person is another.

Yeah, I still say that remote payment is a good idea. Just a different way of seeing things I suppose.
