Thread: Baseline price for vehicles for all around profit maximization

Simply put with no fluff around it....
How does 5cpu for vehicles sound?
In my mind it's still a bit low. Get to know the smiths on your server - there is almost always a resource that you can mine for them at more than 5 cpu. Selling a finished product for less than you could get for similar resources is shooting yourself in the foot, IMHO.

I planned on grinding them to make Novice DE anyway, so I'm not looking to make a killing with this. And some of the resources I have I paid about 3 cpu to get, the rest were given to me.
So what do you think is a fair price?? A simple cpu number will be fine.

For anything less than 7cpu, my harvesters have better places to be.
I'm sorry. I bought halfmy resources at 3 cpu and the other half was given to me for being in my guild.
Then again, my goal isn't to get rich off of this. My goal is to make Novice DE.

Pardon my ignorance but do all master artisans buy resources for 3cpu or higher? I'm curious because I know that if I have my harvesters (rate 4 small or rate 8 medium) on a 70 percent vein or higher, I can break even selling these resources at like .25 creds per unit or so. That would figure in break even price on these 8k unit vehicles as 2k credits.
It's not about your break-even price, it's about your oppurtunity cost. Sure, if you mine your own resources you could make money sellling at 0.5cpu, but you could have been mining resources that sell for 5 cpu or more in that time. All it takes is knowing what resources are in demand at the moment and where to find them.
It seems a lot of people don't understand this basic principle of economics. It's not about breaking even with your base costs, it's about breaking even with whatever amount you could be making with activites within your capability. In other words, you shouldn'tworry aboutbreaking even with your resource cost, you should worry about breaking even with whatever profit you could be making by selling a similar product.

It will take you a handful of speeders to make novice DE. If that's all you plan on making, you're a minor player in this and will have little to no impact come publish.
As for not getting rich, as a novice elite crafter I can tell you you'll need all the money you can get. I've burned through 200K stocking up on grinding material just to get through the AS techniques line as well as mining high quality materials that I'll need when I can make a saleable product.

Good point. It seems, however, that at my 5 cpu price I'm still going to make a good deal of sales, and as long as I can make more than I spend on making these, then I'm going to keep making them to get more money.
Also, we have a sort of guild resource stockpile which is available for my crafting needs. Our stockpile is quite large and should definitely get me where I need to go to start making saleable items.
I am planning on selling all vehicles for 45k. This will cover some of the production cost. After selling about 10, things will be looking good.
This type of discussion has occurred before in the early days oflive servers. Architects in particular had a lot of discussion about pricing when the first Masters started popping up and selling guild halls. In the end all of those posts amounted to very little.
Only a very small fraction of players read these boards despite the excellent content to be found here. The great majority of people will be totally ignorant of whatever standards are set on these forums... and that assumes we as a group would ever be able to agree in the first place. Those non-forum readers will price as they see fit, and the market will dictate the success of those Master Artisans, which will result in a fairly regular standard pricing arising somewhere down the line.
So why even discuss it? ![]()

irasha,
Get as much money as you can, being a DE is very expensive. I am planning on selling the vehicles high. Hopefully I will have enough sales to get me through the rest of DE.
irasha,
Not to mention you are going to need about 230K units of steel to master DE. All your steel should be tied up grinding to DE, so you should not be wasting 3k steel making a few credits. Make the money while you can. You know I will
If we use the formula 3cpu+10%, the raw resources used to build my $35,000 truck cost $12,121. ![]()
But I figure most things you buy are marked up 100%, so if my resources cost1.5 cpu to harvest, the vehicle takes 12k units to make, that's 18000 cr, mark it up 100%, we have 36000 cr. **edit** near the same as 3cpu +10% (39600).
So depending on supply and demand, I will probably look at selling them for around 40k.
I'm sure the first few days, demand will be high, so demand will dictate higher prices.
Opening Day:
Swoop Bike 100k, Speeder Bike 80k, Land Speeder 60k...I'll have enough resources to make about 2.5 million credits on opening day. I'm calling in sick to work if I have to. I've played this game for fun from the beginning hoping to one day become a jedi. I've never been rich and have only done enough missions to earn enough to planet hop and buy a few things. I'm a freaking Artisan/Weaponsmith/Scout...I fight like a girl. I can't mass kill Force Sensitive NPC's and Dark Troopers for a holo. My 2.5 million will go directly to the first person who will sell me a holo and then I'll be broke again. Please buy from me, I'd whack Princess Leia if someone told me she would drop a holo.
