Before you start calling for the guys (or girls) blood...please add the "fat-finger" variable into the equation. I think it was supposed to be 10%, not 1%. This in itself does not make it profitable, but factor in the -20% discount that most mass-miners have (at least the ones I know) from Merchant and it suddenly becomes profitable.

Even on a 1% spot, paying 1.5 cpu for power, the cost per resource per harvestor is still less than 1 cpu.
You sir, are ignorant.
Heavy Harvester (BER 13) on 1% Concentration
Yield Per Day = BER * Percent * 60 min * 24 hours = 13 * 0.1 * 60 * 24 = 187 units per day
Cost Per Day = 2160 Maint + 1.5 * 1800 power = 2160 + 2700 = 4860
Cost to Mine = 4860 / 187 = 26 cpu
Lesson learned - you want to talk out the orifice you sit on, at least do the math first.
Er...yes actually. Very sorry that that I was a bit tired when I wrote this, but at least somebody took the time to think about what I was saying rather than immediatly jump to technical faults. Hey, if we were all perfect there wouldn't be compilers ![]()
So I think that we can agree that 1) on a 10% spot with a 20% maintnence discount you will end up in the green, 2) I probably am ignorant, and 3) When you talk out of the orifice you sit on....wait...technically you sit on chairs.....if you sit on an opening, you fall in.
Next time I'll be sure to save the napkins I use to figure out game math so I can reference them while writing theoretical arguments to virtual problems. Never thought i'd be math flamed....

It's a good idea, how far would the range be on 'no good resources and no good %s' around the harvestors be? Alot of servers are pretty congested and they may heavily affect the economy, especially if all the good %s are in a single area.

Hopefully the future is bright, as long as everything goes according to plan.
