I like the idea of the remote harvesterscanner being based on an optional component. I would say that to balance the RHS you would have to increase the maintenence and possibly the power rate of the harvester. Maybe something like 5 credits and power more per hour.

Why? What is the big problem with non-artisans using harvesters? Medics, Doctors, & Smugglers need minerals, radioactives, chemicals and the like to craft their wares, why should they not be able to bulk-gather the resources they need?

Why not have harv. certs in a game that is supposed to be stressing interdependance?

I think its a question of balance. Having 90% of the resources only be able to be pulled in bulk by a much smaller percentage of the professions is not the way to go.

I would be in favor of a middle groud, however; becaue I agree with your point about interdependance in principle. I'm kind of a do-it-myselfer.

Perhaps the answer is to establish certifications for the SIZE of harvesters and allow personals to be used by everyone and reinstitute miners as a class?

1) Remote monitoring would bea big help. Currently, most of my harvesters are close to my home and I check them daily, but it would give me greater flexibility in maintaining them.

2) Putting all the maintenance functions in one screen would be a godsend. If I had to choose between this and thefirst item, I'd choose this.

3) Certification of harvesters is a tricky issue as it would be a major change in the way the economy currently works. I would like to see it implemented, but I think it needs a lot more discussion. I like the idea of personal harvesters not requiring certification, but mediums and heavies requiring certs from the artisan tree (some architects would argue that heavy certs should be in the architect tree, so you should also consider that possibility when you start discussing certs).

I like the allegory of Medic : Artisan :: Stimpack : Harvester

Can everyone use stim A's? They're so pittiful I'm hoping so. I've never played a non-medic character. By the same token personal harvesters are pittiful compared to med & large so everyone can use them.

Put certs for harvesters on the Survey tree... Engineering 4 is allready a very popular branch.

Medium and Solar would go around Survey 2 (5 skill points past novice)
Heavy and Fusion would go on Survey 4 (14 skill points past novice)

This would also combat mule-ing of harvesters. It wouldn't eliminate it for true mules (who could grind up to survey 4), but it would prevent the master bounty hunter / CH4300 from making a killing on selling minerals (and thereby being an all around uber character... toughest in a fight and rich beyond dreams).

I am opposed to remote *operation* of harvistors , but a notification when they stop working for any reason (like factorys send , via mail) would be increadably helpful.'

On the subject of certs, I say add them, personals at novice, meds at survey 2 and larges at survey 4.

Yes , doctors and other, non artisan req. classes need resorces... armorsmiths need hides, can they harvist them without novice scout? Novice artisan is required to operate survey tools, how is it reasonable to say somone without the basic skills to locate resorces should have the skills to operate the complicated equipmentneeded to extract them?

Heh, actually, only medics can use stims of any kind, even A's. That's actually an argument for all harvesters to be certed (not that I'm calling for that).

Stim A's are so weak... maybe they should be de-certed
