Can anyone explain how the repair system works??
I crafted some arnour and weaponrepair tools the other day and decided to repair my kit. First piece I picked out came out a s a critical failure and it destoryed my kit. Was peeved but thought it was a rare thing like critical failures when crafting. Tried another item, critical failure again. Went through some of my older kit from my safty deposit box and got the same message.

There are NO, repeat NO class repair bonuses. I think there was supposed to be repair bonuses, but they don't work. The best you can do is get the best rated tool you can and hope for the best.

I have been here a year and never repaired anything...
I assumed, similar to UO, that repairing an item would bring down some of its statistics, is that true?
That's why I haven't ever repaired a single item, of course, none of the items have ever gotten so bad that I was afraid they would stop functioning...
What's the deal?

It wont bring down its statistics but it will lower its condition, say a 238/920, when repaired will beabout 750/750 same with armor, but the actual stats (dameage / resist) will not go down.

if you repaira weaponwhen the condition is very low, the damagecan go down. i first noticed that fixing a couple of VK's for people and confirmed it on another forum. example, i repaired a VK at condition 123/920 with max damage of 180and the resultgave a condition of 620 with a max damage of 148. Very sad, VK's that good are hard to make.

As a weaponsmith I have a little experience in repairing weapons. There is a good thread in the WS profession board on this issue. Currently it would seem that the repair tree is non-functional. I have +10 to weapon repair and +10 to repair (due to clothing attachments) and still consistently get degraded repairs (reduction in overall condition). My success with and without the attachments is nearly identical. This wasnt always the case. Several WS's have mentioned that about 5 mo. ago it was easy to repair an item back to original stats. Now however it is an extremely rare occurance and none of the updates mentions changing this.
However, other then the clothing attachments, everybody will have the same success rate of repair given that they are using the same tool. Look for 98.9 or 99% functionality tools. They are very prevalent so you shoud'nt use anything less. That might help out your success rate a bit. Just my $.02

I have repaired both clothing as well as armor. I do have skill tapes that give be slight bonuses in both. I always make sure that I have a repair tool that is at least 95%. I have done many, many items of clothing, but only about a dozen pieces of armor. The only time I have had a critical failure is when the item falls below half. If you do have an item that is below half and has a lot of "extras" added to it, I wouldn't touch it. Critical failure rates tend to be very high one an item goes past the half-way point.
