Thread: Extractors Vs. Hostiles
1 km is one kilometer. If you noticed, your minmap (the one with the yellow, white, and red dots on it) defaults at 64m, which is 64 meters. The game uses the metric system. So, on your larger map, the coordinates -2405, -1908 are 2405 meters south, 1908 meters west of the center point of the map. This roughly translates at -2.4km, -1.9km.
And how much power it takes to power the extractors varies. I have steel extractors that last for days on 2000 units of wind energy, but my chemical extractor on the other side of the map burns like 1500 power a day. I can't really give you a definite answer.
Not to be rude, but whining like this doesn't help.. Things aren't supposed to be cake and ice cream. I have 6 harvestors, and 2 Wind gens down, and Yes on occasion there are mob's around my harvestors.. But because of this I'm now a Pistol Specialist, and Have explore 2 for Mask Scent.. Now its uncommon that they aggro me, and if they do, most i can handle on my own. Make yourself some armor instead selling it all on the market..sell your resources to buy a new gun . Whatu have 150 skill points left over likely right now? use em for a weapon skill, You don't have to keep the weapon, later when u get your Artisan& Expert Prof up in level.. let the weaponAtrophy..but there are ways you can handle the situation by yourself, instead of just whining in the forums.
Think of other ways.
Excuse me, Kaustix, but I wasn't whining. I was asking whether or not the server mods had anything to do with the hostiles being set up in areas thick with extractors. Since they did the updates to make it harder for artisans to do their things (surveying, keeping extractors working, etc.) I wasn't sure whether or not they set up hostile encounters around extractors on purpose.
In addition, I'm not just an artisan; in fact, I'm very close to being a carbineer. But when you're faced with literally hundreds of hostiles in the area, all of them with itchy trigger fingers, it makes getting to your extractors very difficult, if not impossible.
So, people say "Just come back later." I understand that, but sometimes I'm going to them to resupply them with power or credits, not to take the resources. If there's too many hosties, they shut down due to the fact I can't reach them before their supplies expire. That's probably something the dev's didn't take into account when they made it so extractors only work when 100% maintained.
If it's tough for me to do this, I'd imagine it's probably near impossible for artisans without any combat experience.
I agree that this is a bit of a problem. Not so much from a camping standpoint but because we are forced to micomanage so much. Our little group has to do daily runs to the harvesters because none of us have the money to put in more than 1 day at a time. Power is starting to build up some, so that isn't so much of an issue, but having to go out an pay them every day and to check to make sure that the resource they're mining hasn't disappeared is time consuming enough as it is. Never mind adding agro mobs on top of that.
[Story warning] Kake and I, as well as a mercenary that I hired after I was killed once, fought for close to an hour one night defeating swoopers that continually were spawning around our harvesters. As soon as we would kill the last one, 4 more would spawn, usually 1 within agro range of us.(/Story]
I don't see it as a problem in the point that, sure these things can happen. However I ended up staying up until 2am on a night when I wanted to be off by midnight because I couldn't power my harvesters!
( I make big bucks selling high-end resources too.)
Kaustix, the problem is, I have rifle 2 and am working on exploration 2, I wear full Mabari armor and carry a tusken rifle doing 83 minimumdamage, I've even siphoned a couple hundred points from my action and mind pools into my health to keep me alive longer during fights, making me a less efficient artisan overall. None of that matters, I can't solo 3-4 ravenous tortons. Heck, I can't even get halfway through one of them. I stopped even trying to defend myself out there because I just waste more in insurance for my weapons and armor - it's hopeless. Crawl, run, get killed a lot, tear your hair out in frustration, that's the only way to be an artisan. I moved to Tatooine because the mobs are weaker there, but I still can't clear a whole mob off of my harvesters, only change is that I might survive long enough to run if I get aggro'd. Harvesters nead to generate a 150m perimiter that keeps away mobs. Why would animals want to hang out by a bunch of noisy, smokingmachines anyway?
I doubt they'll fix it though, because it seems to bea basic function of mob spawning to camp popular areas. Everyone just remember to factor your insurance costs into your overhead when you sell your goods. Oh wait... we already have to sell under cost because of the power-levelers, nevermind. Just sell ore at rip-off prices to architects so that they can't cut a profit either!
I've restarted 2x . on different servers. Each time it was the same, and I likewise had similar problems. But I took my first days resources, and Instead of crafting them I sold them on open market.. Think of what you see a Majority of Weaponsmiths are Everywhere and need good metals, Architects need ore etc etc.. Mine the hell out of a couple of them, sell them on the market for 5x or moreamount of resource (ie 1K resource = 5000 creds) .. And just sit and sample the hell out of one spot to sell.. One day of selling resources will pay off Huge in the long run.. I now have almost 80K creds, 7 harvestors 2 wind gens, and avg 5K+ of many kinds of resources. (about 8K of fiberplast) That is just a few days . tops 1 week
Now i drop about 3 - 4 days of maintenance, and about2 days of power. I check my harvestors before work in the morning and when i come in from work.. and and have little worry if they are camped. my only problem is the **edit** resource shifts = / . all we have is crap steel on naboo = (
Well after 8 hours of grinding to pay maintenance fees, I went to my extractors and wind generators to find red conn aggressives near each one.Nay! They popped upseconds after I appeared. So now I wasted 3 days preparing to set up extractors because I hoped they would gather lots of resources for me. And now I cant get to them or use them. Oh and my wind generators are asking like 4k each on repairs because theyre at 50% efficiency. This is BS.
Theyre doing this on purpose and it has got to stop.
