Thread: Macro sampler transitioning to harveters
Sorry for the length of the post
follow these simple steps
Day 1
1. find a wind area of 55%+ and place 2 wind harvesters, then go out and sample all the metal/mineral you need for your personal harvesters. save the wind you get, because you need it to power your harvesters. pay maintence for 1 day,3000 credits total. use the new survey missions to pay for your maintence, easy to take 1-2 missions and run out to your harvester location and get some free cash basically for travelling.
Day 2
2. place multiple harvesters on high concentrations of minerals. i prefer carbonate ore, steel, aluminum,or copper. also, you want to keep the # of minerals you harvest at any one time at a minimum. generally i spend the time to find at least 80% spots or higher, yes you might run around a bit more, but you can still find 2-3 minerals with this % around one city/town center.i also try to find the better quality materials so that if nessicary i can sell to more then one profression type. my usual placement is 4 ore,2 steel 2 copper/aluminum.pay maintence on your 8 harvesters at 5600 credits per day, plus use the wind you obtained.run survey missions if you need the cash and locate the spots you want. dont jump from multiple cities and place harvestesr there,or harvest multiple planets at the same time.
3. find through the message boards,or in game architects who need mass materials. get there name so you can start shipping him materials. get a price agreed on up front, usually somewhere between 3-4 cr per unit is what i shoot for. if you find some excellent quality material for weapons/armor then you can try them as well for a better price 4-6cr per unit.
Day 3
4. Sell 75% of your mined material in large blocks to the architect. you should have around 5-10k of ore,3-5k of 2 others. assuming 3 cr per unit you will see a gross return of around 15-20k,as well as saving some material for yourself.
5. Do this for a few days, then use the money you made to upgrade to medium harvesters so that you can sell less and keep more resource for whatever your making. or if you have the cash ,just start with medium harvesters. once you get a bit of a bankroll built up,place power/maintence on a 2 or 3 day basis,so you dont have to check your harvesters every 24 hours. the one drawback is you will lose some money when resources shift, but if you check on what resources are available you can shift your harvesters or plant new ones when the shift hits. generally i find that i can leave my harvesters for 3-10 days depending on luck.
Also, dont try to mine 10 different things,or use multiple harvester types early on. Reason is you can always buy the things you need in small quantities or sample for them while your harvesters work on the big quantities. doing this with 8 medium harvesters, and 2 wind i generate about 35,000 units of resources a day.
kasuta wrote:The wind harvester does not need to be near the other harvesters but it certainly makes things easier. There are solar generators, they cost a great deal more than the wind generators and they cost twice as much to maintain but they also output twice as much. The benefit is they only take up 1 lot space and yield twice the resource.
Medium harvesters, well the price will vary greatly. You can buy them from an architect. For the personal harvesters and wind harvesters you only need to find an engineer from the artisan line. I hope this helps!
The solars generators are not twice as expensive. You are confusing medium harvesters with solar generators. All generators cost the same maintenance, 1440 a day. I never wasted time with expensive wind, I went pretty much right to solar and then switched to fusions as soon as I could make them. I am running my fusions on a relatively low 79% radioactive and they still pull over 14K of power a day each. That is more than enough power to run 10 medium extractors.
If you want information on harvesters go and spend a few minutes on the architect board, there are regular threads covering all the details of harvesters from medium minerals to heavy chemicals. Where is my information from? I am a master architect as well as a master artisan.
Also someone posted that people sell mediums chems or gases at 5 or 6 K more that medium minerals. Very suprising to me since a medium chem uses over 3 times the resources of a medium mineral. I guess some architects like to loose money. Expect to pay 12-17K for a medium mineral and 35-40K for a medium chem or gas. Mediums are well worth it though so you can save slots and if you can get them heavies are even better as they are overall more efficient. A heavy can pull 3.5 times the resources as a personal but costs only 3 times as much a day to power and maintain as a personal.
Aidendorf I don't know what server you're on but I'm an architect and I wouldn't even THINK of buying resources at 3-4 cr. I've bought some materials that people offered me at 2cr, but thats as high as I would go. Maybe its different where you are.
Also 5-10k ore is a drop in the bucket of what I go through a day ![]()
If you are going into the resource business you are better off trying for the weaponsmith/armorsmith market.
