Funny you should mention that approach. I've been doing the same thing with CDEF longarms on Corellia. If somone is selling a CDEF Carbine or Rifle for chump change, I've been buying them. For a while, I was re-selling them at about 2.5x what they were being dumped for. I made so much money off that that I've been just destroying them to a) keep my bazaar slots open for my own merchandise, and b) to deny the dumpers the usage XP.

Haven't quite figured out what to do about the guys selling harvesters and gennys at 1000cr, however. I'm guessing folks haven't realized that at that price (it costs more to move it than it would to destroy it and buy another) they are undercutting their own usage XP gain, and not turning a 'profit' on the creation, either.

Basically, energy should sell for 2-3cr a unit, and it's finally dropping to that on Valcyn. With that price, other resources should run 2-5cr a unit. The funny thing is the stuff that I see out there priced at far less than 2cr per unit of resources that went into it, and doesn't even consider the crafting that went into it! I'm just buying the cheap stuff to get it off the board and then re-selling it.

With the exception of CDEF weapons, I'm running some of the highest prices of things in the same market. To date, I've only had 3 auctions close out without making a sale. I'm making 1000's of credits a day. The funny thing is, the grinders could be to, if they'd just do a little study of economics. Aside from the money, I'm averaging about 25xp an hour doing nothing.

This statement says a lot about how little many artisans understand about the market.
Anyone who is given bone armor won't be buyin bone armor in the future. So who buys the armor we've invested so much time and money in? No one.

--- Korcid

Bone armor is nothing right now, I'm sorry to say. The market has been kickstarted with all new artisans flooding the market. Anything from Spiced Tea to a Shortsleeve Jacket to Wind Generators are out in abundance right now. This will only clear up with time, after the artisans have come into their own.

Anyone who invests 11,000 CXP can easily build all of the bone armor. To move up from there you need a further 20,000 and even more going ahead. The whole point is that anyone who wanted to build weapons, droids, buildings, or armor has to go through the skills, and keep them, to make bone armor. This means that there will be a lot of this stuff out there right now. Yes the market is flooded and it will be for a little while.

Does this mean we are hurting each other giving this stuff out? Not really. People still buy it sometimes, but Armorsmiths are popping up everywhere. Why buy Bone when you can get better?

I completely agree with you that giving things away is in a persons right. Everything we do affects the market, I will give you that. Assuming this impacts anyones rational of thinking is going to make you wrong. If you're aspiring to be a builder of something bigger then bone armor one day, and you give some guy a full suit, chances are he will remember you next time he wants something. Its just a matter of salesmanship.

On the flip side, people go into the Bazaar, they see something being sold for 100 credits, so they go Ah-Ha! I'll just sell it for 99! This undercutting pulls the bazaar to a halt and noone selling there ever sees a reliable profit right now.

All I can say is wait and see, the market will even out when crafters aren't pumping out armor to level up as much as they are right now.

The economy is building. We will see an evening out here shortly and prices will begin to set on the more desired items. Everything else, like a flooded market, will begin to dissipate.

Thanks for reading!

There was someone running around Theed yesterday shouting that they had Bone Armor chest plates to give away free. I contacted them immediatelyasked why were they were doing that. They said they were doing it for a friend and asked why was I concerned about it. I told them that I had just reached Engineering IV and was looking forward to finally being able to sell Bone Armor chest plates and sell them. I said if he was going to give them away all the time than no one was surely going to pay me for them because he would have rendered them valueless. He said that he only had three and didn't think theperson would be doing it anymore and that he understood why I would be concerned.

That is the point about giving things away. It is one thing to have looted a mob and give away something that you found and don't need. It is another to craft a bunch of things and give them away because you want the Uxp. We as Artisans have the global economy in our hands. Whatever we do with it, will affect us just as it does every other Artisan. Saywe render an item useless by crafting and giving it away because we are dying to get to an Elite profession so that we can finally make certain items. How will we feel when we finally get to that level and are ready to make those items only to find that no one will buy them from us because Elite professionals before us grinded them out and gave them away and thus rendered them valueless.

The reason why SOE will not allow us to sell our goods to NPCs because they want us to work with each other as a group. Our economy is our own making. We can make it as bad or as good as we chose. The combat gamers will always make money and will be able to afford our goods. They will however, only buy items that they can't get for free. That is just common sense. So even though we are competing against one another, we have to look out for each other as well. So let the Novice Artisans have products that are of value to produce by us not giving them away just so we can level up quicker.

MMORPGs are all about gamer cooperation. It is a new concept for many gamers who are probably used to just shooting everything in sight in an online game. SWG is the best player craft mmorpg that I have seen. I liked it so well it is the first time that I have ever chose a non-combat role. I am looking forward to the experience, but as combat players have to work together in achieving their goals, so must the economy makers, in achievers theirs.

You know, I never have a problem selling my CDEF rifles and pistols, even though there are tons of them. What is it that makes mine sell for between 150 and 300 credits and other folks just sit there at 50? Presentation and quality.

When I craft a weapon that I intend to sell, I craft it using the materials I can get, and I make sure it is highly experimented on AND that was no less than a great success. Also, each of my weapons gets a powerup made the exact same way. That's the quality part, and my weapons stats show it. Newbies have cash, and they need good gear just as much as anyone.

The second part is presentation. When I create each weapon, I look at the stats before I name it. If it falls within certain parameters for damage, or speed, or HAM cost, it gets a brand name, so that everyone knows that if they are getting a "Delrulian ""High Power"" CDEF Pistol" they are getting a CDEF pistol that does at least 50 max damage. Then, and this is the really really important part, I put in a description explaining EXACTLY what powerup is on the weapon, what it is doing, what I used to create the weapon, and why I think you should by this particular weapon. Yes, it takes me an hour or so to put up 10 weapons this way, but of those 10, at least 8 will sell, every single time. That is steady income, and it's building me a reputation as a crafter that takes time and puts effort into my work.

Sure, I power grind crap to get XP, just like the next guy. I'll give it away, but I always tell folks it's grinded gear, and not really intended to be exceptional. If they want quality, check the bazaar, or one of my consignments.

Trust me, if you have something of quality to sell, like a well crafted breastplate that you know is good, put a description up, and make sure you name it with some sort of info that doesn't mislead folks, but lets them know that this item is superior to all the others in that category.

Should have said "When I craft a weapon that I intend to sell, I craft it using the best materials I can get, and I make sure it is highly experimented on AND that it was no less than a great success.

There is another tactic if you see folks selling stuff for well under it's value. Buy the item, then immediately resell it for the price it should get. The artisan who made it got their asking price, now all you are doing is relisting the item for what it's worth. One of my favorite hobbies in this game is market speculation like that. I'll go to one city, see that a whole bunch of a certain item just got put up for sale for an insanely low price, buy all of them in one shot, then go to another city where I know they will sell for a bit more. As long as I can make 20 credits plus the price of my shuttle ticket spread out across all the items, I'm winning, and I'm keeping myself interested. Yeah, sometimes I take a bath on a load of muzzles, but most of the time I turn a profit.

There is alot to be said about this market, and I think that after all of us early players get up to higher and more influential levels, we'll be able to really make this market work.

I completely agree nehoc. I've been making bone armor for 2 days, I've never given anything away, except to friends, and those are few and far between. Everytime I make an item, it's experimented on as much as i can, if It's great quality, i'll spend a while putting in a description of the item at the bazaar, just like a small advertisement. Since I've been doing that, I've sold nearly every piece of bone armor I've put up within the day, most within the first 10 minutes. In reality all the bazaar breaks down to, is just a big advertisement board that you can conveniently buy stuff at. So why wouldn't you try out your advertisement skills, it's done nothing but help sell my items.

"COME ON SONY, GIVE US AN EDIT FEATURE FOR PETE'S SAKE!"

LOL Yes, please! Why is it that I can only see my errors AFTER I post?!

BTW Someone is selling fuel for a ridiculous 3000 units for $2,750 in the Bazaar! And it is not a one time mistake because they have several duplicateauctions going. They certainly can't be making any money nor can they be doing for Uxp. I feel a little guilty for buying up as much of it as I possibly can of it, but it certainly eased my fuel crisis that I had when my sources disappeared Saturday morning.

Arghanon, don't you think it's too bad that you don't get any exp for making a good product or turning a profit? I do - it's just so sad that a little, tiny extra multiplier for experimentation results couldn't be put into the GCXP code. Think what a difference it would have made for the quality of the stuff that is now infesting our bazaars!

What's Usage XP?

No, seriously - is this some mythical beast that people talk about as being something that may or may not happen?

Because to be brutally honest, I have never seen any indication of obtaining UXP from any item I have crafted - Deed, Powerup (and I make 98% effective weapon powerups - yes, a full +32.83% increase) or anything else.

So what exactly is UXP, does it exist, or is it just a rumour?

I am Eng IV (just2k from weaponsmith)and don't even create a single piece fo bone armor unless it is sold before I make it. If you are looking for usage xp, don't give armor away, just check your local bazaar for rare items and craft & sell them. This way you get cash, usage xp, and don't ruin the economy for others. I get good xp per crafting time for making survey tools and selling them on the bazaar for 200 creds each. I actually make enough doing this to keep my harvesters running andbuy other raw materials for crafting more complicated items for myself and friends. If there are already many survey tools on the market, then I look for something else which is in low supply. My items never sit on the bazaar for more than a day and I get good monetary return on them by following this method.

"...Tell me how you get to novice Weaponsmith, or Droid Eng. without usage XP? (20K+ Gen Crafting XP)..."

I got it making a lot of things. Considering you need 12.5k to get to engineering 4 just double what you did to get there. Personally I made some bone armor, lots of powerups. The good ones I sold the bad ones I used myself and for grinding I did havey axes mostly. 80xp and everything is harvestable.

Not that I would sell it that cheep but you *can* make a profit on that. Generators cost 1400 a day to maintain but can easily generate 3k in a day even on a 50% plot. That's charging twice your costs which is a pretty good mark-up. I'm considering putting down generators with my non-crafting characters and selling off the resources and resources generate a much better return than crafted items.
