Thread: Premium Sales

The bazaar should either strip color from item names, or refuse to sell them.

Then remove the premium sale column, add a custom color, fixed or custom, to premium auctions. And yes, no matter what sorting, they should ALWAYS be on top.

Colored item names get the attention premium sales do not, at no skill cost. I consider this an encroachment on merchant territory, using undocumented features clearly not intended to be used this way, and therefore an exploit.

Stripping the color codes from the item name on the bazaar should be childs play...

I agree. Code a way to ignore "crafted in" colored item names once it's posted on the bazaar. I don't want them to take away our ability to color item nameswhen creating the product (I love being able to make colored signs out of bone armor segments, or color-code "outifts" in groups for display) but I do think colorized item names negate the merchant skill for premium sales and they should find a way to nullify colored item names on the public bazaar, but not on player vendors! Colored item names is a good way to sort into groups on vendors too, but the bazaar just has too many listings for it to be practical within the current sorting criteria.

Why does it sort to the top based on color anyway? Does that mean that the way Premium is/was supposed to work was by highlighting them with color? Only they couldn't get it to work so we got the asterisk instead? I really dislike the way the bazaar sorts right now. Premium should always be first page and top. Once you've paged through all the premium sales, then and only then should non-premium postings begin appearing on any page, no matter how you sorted.

Color is done by using "\#999999\ item name goes here". It alphabetizes based on the first character in the item name (not the first character that's actually displayed) so all the stuff with color gets sorted to the top because of the backslash.

I agree, the bazaar should ignore hex codes and add color to premium items. Premium sales as they are are worthless.

Mystyrys' post describes the way I thought it should work. Premium always sorted before non-premium for paging purposes, on top in the default sort order. Once the user changes the sort on the page, premium items only sort first among identical sort values. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

It really irritates me when my premium sales are not on the first page while non-premium are. This was not so obvious before they put the * in, but now it really bugs me because it is constantly in my face.

However, that said, I still use premium sales for anything over 1000 cr. The cost is not large with Eff skills for even a small advantage. I asked buyers of a new item what attracted them to it, and one response was "because it was a premium item." In my thank you note, I responded as though he was refering to the qualitiy, but I think he found the * attractive somehow. I don't see it myself, but I am not going to argue with a customer :-)

I don't know if it's the same for everybody but at my current resoultion of 1024x the premium sales column is the same width as the items title when it's on sale at the bazaar. Now I sell a lot of personal extractors and it's very annoying for me to click each one to find the type that I want because since the premium auction was used the title for items has been compressed so all I see it "deed for pers..." presonal what? Chemical, mineral? Who knows without clicking on it.

I want to see at a glance what items are for sale so it seems a waste for the premium sales box to be as large as the title box (making it harder to sell stuff too) without a good description that you can see without having to click on it.

What would be a good idea on the other hand would be to change the little star for premium sales to a highlight and do away with the colored text for non premium sales on the bazaar and have resizable colums.

The columns are resizable. There's just no visible button or anything to click on. Hover your cursor over the tiny space *inbetween* the column titles until your cursor changes to the resize icon. Then drag to resize to the size you want. Oh, but the bazaar does not save your settings. You have to resize columns each time you open one.
