Thread: Answer to All the Artisan Nerf Complaints
Well, I've been reading the NEVER ENDING debate on harvesters versus macros and I'm finally going to weigh in with my 2 cents.
....DOESN'T MATTER!
As a crafter, I am far more threatened by the prospect of a farm of harvestors and a factory than I will EVER be by someone macroing. If they develop a good macro and run it all night, more power to them for finding a cheaper way to do it.
Fact of the matter is the developers need to separate crafting from resource gathering. Looking at how branched out professions are in this game, it amazes me that theymade the crafter dependent on the gathering of their own materials.
Harvesting adds nothing to gameplay for crafting. Crafting in itself is pretty challenging. I have to figure out what I am going to make. Examine the appropriate materials, then combine and manage experimentation. And that is as a novice artisan still. Novice weaponsmith will take that up two or three notches. Now add to the gathering resources. Ok, its kinda cool. I get to run around surveying and gathering (I don't really care what the definition of sampling is). I can buy making harvesters, running a mile away to even get to build them, then running them. NOW COMES MAINTENANCE AND POWERING. I have harvesters to harvest the power I need to harvest the material I need so I can sit down and do some crafting. TOO FAR. And please don't come at me with the "... in real life you have to have power and maintenance blah, blah, blah". This ain't real life it is a game.
They shoulda given surveying and mining a continuing branch. If I could go farther as a miner, I would do it. The complexities of resource management in this game are pretty amazing and interesting on their own. I would enjoy specializing as a miner, search around, gathering and harvesting and marketing my wares. I don't do it because it won't take me any further in player development. So I have to tolerate this harvesting stuff to craft.
Running and maintaining harvestors detracts from the specialization and doesn't add to it. As such, it takes away from gameplay. And while we are looking up definitions....
DEVELOPERS: PLEASE STOP THE NERFING. NERFING WATERS THE GAME DOWN. IT WATERED DOWN MAGIC: THE GATHERING, EVERQUEST, DARK AGE OF CAMELOT. PLAYERS, STOP HAVING PARANOID DELUSIONS ABOUT PEOPLE THAT GET CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE IN THE GAME.
