Thread: Medium and Large Harvesters... what am I getting into?

No mediums still can only harvest one type at a time. They are much bigger than personal harvesters though. I have alot of trouble placing my mediums sometimes. I still use a couple personals when i find a great spot in a hard to reach place. Some mountains i have found spots for personal but never medium.

I beleive it will dissappear and destroy itself if you let it go for to long. But when you place it there is a waypoint made to it automatically in your datapad. Unless you deleted it that is.

Yes, if you do not pay maintenance into it, the harvestor will begin to decay and then once it's "health", if you will, is depleated it will destroy itself. Putting energy into it has nothing to do with how it decays, it just sits there idle when it's out of power... eating up your maintenance fees. *grumble* That gripe is for another time, though

Cheers all!

So do you just transfer the fees and energy to the harvestor's inventory? How do you power a harvestor?

When you put one down, you can bring up a radial menu on it like many other things. This menu will include options to pay maintenance or deposit power. If you choose one of those options, a box will pop up that is a simple entry screen - you type in (or in the case of power, you can also use a slider bar) how much you want to deposit.

If you are unfamiliar with the power notation, be careful. 600 units of power should last you a day's worth for a personal harvester. A friend of mine put up his harvester and added power and saw the (0:24) notation and thought it was saying he had 24 minutes worth. He ran to town a couple times and eventually added 10k units of power before giving up. He wasn't too excited to find out he had spent enough power for 17 days! At least it should last him through a few resource shifts. Hehe...

the (0:24) means 24 hours right?

yeah...to the left of the colon is some odd unit that is composed of 60 hours, and the right of the colon is normal hours..

so 2:24 is actually 144 hours...

Or you could do what I did last night.

Deposit 700 power and realize you just added an extra 0 thus using all of your extra power and giving yourself 4:44 on your power.

Another note on Medium harvester placement:

When in overhead map mode to place the harvester, you can right click to rotate the harvester. Sometimes this will allow you to place a medium vertically instead of horizontally, or vis versa.

The numbers I like to use to compare are the max amount / min. The numbers / hr in the operate machinery menu are actually real time minutes.

Also all harvesters take 1 slot.

Advantages

The real advantage to mediums over personals is that they are equal to two personals on one lot. Therfore you can mine twice the resoure types or twice as much resource total as with an account full of personals.

The advantage of heavies is that they cost you 3 times a personal, but make you 3.5 times a personal for 1 lot. So they save you lots and are more efficient. If you have ever run 2 or 3 heavies on 90%+ metals you will know what I mean when I say efficient.

Numbers

Power
Maint 1440/day
Wind 4/min
Solar 8/min
Fusion 13/min
Re-deed 3000

Personal
Maint 720
Power 600
Production 2/min
Re-deed 1500

Medium
Maint 1440
Power 1200
Production 4/min
Re-deed 3000

Heavy
Maint 2160
Power 1800
Producton 7/min
Re-deed 4500

How much am I gonna make?

If you want to know approximately what you are going to pull in a 24 hour period multiply the number posted in the "operate machinery" window once the harvester is on by the number of minutes in a day (1440).

For example an approximate 70% resource will allow a medium to run at about 2.8 / min (approximately .7*4).

So to figure out your resource / day you would make the following calculation 2.8 * 1440 = 4032.

Now it is worth noting that even though the survey tool says 70% the actual resource concentration will be somewhere between 70% and 71%. This is because the actual resources are accurate to at least two decimal places. So even though you are on a "70%" you might actually make 2.82 or 2.83 / min.
