for minerals, they will be the same from one planet to the next, this is true for chemicals as well except for Fibreplast which is different in name and therefore in stats from planet to planet.
Organics are also planet specific too.
The randomness of the quality of material spawning is one of the reasons weaponsmiths and the like jump onto good spawns and try to collect as much of it as possible, to stock pile it for the times when there isnt any good stuuf.
Yes you will find that a lot of your time is spent serching for materials, but its all about time management, i typically spend my frist few minutes checking my survey tools to see if i need to visit any of my harvesters to redeed them because the spawn has gone, then perhaps another hour if i do need to redeed them and find a new spot.
One other thing that helps is that i put 5 - 10 days of maintenance and power into my medium harvesters and typically the hoppers only need emptying every 5 days, so i generally pick one or two days a week tending them.

I think you miss understand me... one i can do the work... i've shown i can already (never knew about swgcraft.com, but great site)... the thing is u never knew if your a artisan of a higher lvl, you really can't do anything else well. It seems better to be pure crafter (Master Artisan, Master WS and Master AS).
Also about my last point... I don't mean it just spawns less often... what I mean is... why not keep the names, and just change the places... keep the stats for resources but just allow more kinds... and only change the name and stats of a few resources at a time and with a nice amount of time between changes (14 days???). I mean you say that if nothing changed the vets will always be first... but that happens anyway... they know the system so well, us new guys have no chance of selling our goods (and so in turn earn the money or exp)
My way would have the resoucres change place as often as now... but not with name change or stat change except once ina while where a few resources will have a change. This allows lower lvl ppl have a chance to catch up and... make it more realistic. I say more realistic, because in the real world one resource doesn't just change into another one, with new stats LOL no but resources can run out and so a new place will be needed... and new types of resources are found now and again (again more true to life).
I'm still thinking about the artisan profession... but looking less and less likely i will do well, if i want to keep PVE and PVP, or just be out for alot of fights.

The trouble with keeping the stats the same would be that there is no variety. for those that put in the effort to sample, locate and harvest the good quality material then they reap the benefits of being able to make the better quality items.
on the other hand even the lower quality materials can be useful to some. for myself, the quality of materials for making clothing is irrelivant, also the quality of the materials i make the containers for drinks (crystaline gemstone) is irrelivant, so i'll buy that of people rather than pay extra for the higher quality stuff.
so the system as it is offers diversity of materials to suit the variety of crafting professions.
Its just a system, not a perfect one perhaps, but if you stick with artisan, you'll get used to it.

Well that's why i said that new things come on to the resource table now and again... just not as much as now... but i only go into it this much, because it's so unrealistic... but i DO understand what you guys are saying... and i know it's hard work... but it's also hard to get used to a system like this, when all you know is the system in the real world
Well I'm going to give it a try... but if things get too much... the fighting profession i cam aiming for will win through.
Let's see

I invite all of you to help us keep the SWGCraft site up to date for Intrepid server. As a WS, I focus primarily on Mineral, Chemical, Gas and Wood and I generally try to keep the main planets (Corellia, Naboo, Tattooine) up to date, but it does get expensive to do the outlying planets every few days.
I know Bladewraith and several others here are big contributors, but we could definitely use a few more bodies t break up the load. :-)

Resource rotation is good, BUT we need an email when the resource our harvesters are working on rotates out.

SWGCraft.com will tell you in days and hours how long is left for your resource and how long you have to wait for a rare resource....most at least

Since when and what page are you looking at? I only see how long ago the resource was declared available in the number of hours or days. Nothing to suggest how much longer the resource has left.
Also, I would not rely too heavily on http://www.SWGCraft.com, unfortunately people are not keeping it very up to date. People will declare and verify when resources become available but no one ever marks them as unavailable. This is probably because the web site owner has a nasty message saying if you mess with the resource lists then he may pull your access to the site. Naturally, people don't want that and rather risk it they just do not mark the resource as unavailable. Resources then are listed that may not have been available for several days or over a month.

That message has to be there, think a bit about about and you'll see why... As to ppl not marking them as unavailable that has to do with the fact that Mara Jade doesn't put them there, beeing the one that does alomost all of the resources I see there. I'm NOT saying he/she should I'm saying ppl should perhaps contribute more to a site that makes live on miners and crafters so much easier.
I'll makea point of declaring somthing as unavailable from now on.

The original poster might have meant "What determines how long it will be after class 3 liquid petrol spawns til it spawns again", as well.
