I like this Idea it could possibly add that Depth that the miner class needed to stay around. The only thing i am wondering about is how bad it would bother the architech's when they remove the advanced mining machines and give them to the Miner should they reimplement it. What would the architech get to fill that gap? I myself am not an architech and salute those that are, cause from what i have seen it looks to be a pretty big job to deal with. i think its a great idea just trying to see it from both ends to see what the pros and cons would be for doing such. As for the metalurgy wonderful idea!! I know I have some really nice resources I cannot find anymore but cant use them in anything that would make some nice alloys etc.

The miner would probably come after Survey 4. You should have to get a set amount of survey exp to get novice miner. The four disciplines would be in machinery (building structures), techniques (give you modifiers), Efficiency (takes less HAM to survey), and tools (gives access to improved survey tools).
