I do think this thread was supposed to be a thread where u write ideas for a top 5, not a thread where we discuss Harvester certifications

Maybe its just me who is wrong

Danemb,

Harvester certifications and issues relating to mining and acquisition of resources are one of our top five. Well...Guru said the top five wouldn't specifically include harvester certifications....

But the top 5 issues are what the community thinks are important to discuss. Right? So what is wrong with our discussing issues related to resource extraction when our profession has the surveying tree? Nothing.

I was just tooling around the forums, looking to see what was being talked about by the different professions, and I've just got to say that a few of you are giving the whole profession a bad name on the forums. Just a couple of thoughts:

-If someone disagrees with you, try to refrain from callingthem an idiot or poo-poo head.

-If you have some all-powerful, all-encompassing knowledge, provide solid evidence, not just "I said it, I know it, it must be gospel".

-Understand that threats of "I'm going to quit" for any reason really doesn't get the community to rally behind you, much less take you or your initiatives seriously.

Now, back to the harvester cert issue --- if you plan on monopolizing the resources in-game as much as you monopolize this thread (which is supposed to about the profession's top 5 issues, not 1 most heated), then you have to see why the other 30+ professions are against you on this one.

First of all, harvester certs for Artisans won't keep Master Bounty Hunters from having and using heavy harvesters. If you think that way, then you don't understand the current game mechanics. What I mean is this --- as soon as I decided to go up the Unarmed tree I went out and bought and used a Vibro Knuckle. I didn't get a Vibro Knuckle cert until Novice TKM, but I used the tool without the cert. Sure, I wasn't as effective at Unarmed 1 as I was at Novice TKM, but I could use the tool just the same. Certs are different from Schematics, where you can't create an item until you have the Schematic. Certs don't eliminate, they just reduce effectiveness with a tool.

I'mseeing the "they don't need anything greater than a personal harvester" statement made about classes other than Artisan. Here's the deal --- other professions need more resources than personal harvesters are able to provide. For example, at Domestic Arts 4, a Travel Pack requires 70 resources to make. At Organic Chemistry 4, also in a starting profession (Medic) at the same point on the skill tree, a Stamina Wound MedpackB requires 72 resources to make. So, based on making 1 item, I would say that the Medic needs a heavier harvester than a Artisan. This doesn't even take into account the number of Stamina Wound Medpack Bs required to heal up one patient that is severely wounded vs. selling a single Travel Pack to a customer. This doesn't take into account that selling a Travel Pack guarantees income, whereas a lot of players still receive treatment in a Med Center and never tip Medics. Going one step further, a Weighted Wookiee Hood, also made at Domestic Arts 4 only requires 25 resources, none of which can be harvested by a harvester.

So, there's really only a couple of logics here:

1. I'm selfish. Hurt everyone else who isn't an Artisan by reducing the effectiveness of their harvesters (since certs won't keep them from having harvesters greater than personal harvesters). This isn't balancing or profession-defining. It's just selfish.

2. Move harvester certs to novice elite professions. This would include Doctors, Combat Medics, Musicians... This, unfortunately hurts the Artisan class as much as it hurts the other starting professions.

3. Since it ain't broke, don't try to "fix" it. Leave harvester certs out of the game. Can I get an "Amen"?

I know that you can shoot holes all through the examples above, but it makes the point no less clear. Harvester certs are bad, mmmk?

On my second account I picked up Master Artisan for the sole reason of being able to craft anything I needed for myself, my guild, and my friends without having to rely on outside sources. It's not a lack of interdependency, it's an intelligent use of one's resources for the betterment of him/herself and those around him/her. On that note, although it wouldn't affect me, I vote against Harvester Certifications. I see one of two things happening: People creating second accounts just to mine and sell resources at exorbitant prices (if you thought inflation was bad before, ...), -OR- people just not buying them period. A harvester certification requirement would only hurt the economy and the player base. I'm all for throwing the dog a bone, but IMHO I don't see the dev's taking this suggestion that seriously given the possible negative ramifications on the general populace.

Not sure about Lucas Arts, but I can just about guarantee you that SOE views two accounts in a very positive light. More money coming in and all. Why do you think they make you buy an expansion for each account?

If enough people did the second account thing...or if the certification were low like say survey 4...I doubt you would see rampant inflation. You wouldn't, however, be able to use all those lots from your guildmates to mine resources. Is that why you vote against? Because it "wouldn't affect you?" Everyone would be impacted in some way.

Ok folks,

In our most recent question/answer from the devs, it was clear that our top five is more important to geting fixes/enhancements than the dev question. So, back to getting the top five sorted out. It is unfortunate that this thread got choked with the harvester cert debate. As a result, I'm going to dump this thread and start a fresh top five thread. I also won't prime the pump this time.

Come to the new thread, it'll be stickied.
