Thread: Have we given up on longer life of Vehicle Customization Kits?

Is there any news (or does anyone care) about the fact that most players won't bother with Vehicle Customization Kits (even though they were a great concept) because they fade away too fast? ...or are have been known to vanish after a single unlucky Generate Vehicle?

I still think it should be so easy to at least double their life, like they did with Droid Batteries. If that doesn't get most players using them, then double their life again.

I would agree with your idea. I never even tried one until yesterday, because I thought it a waste of time if it's going to vanish right away. Droid customization fades so quickly, I figured vehicles would too. But I saw one in a vendor and thought "what the heck" and painted my landspeeder with a blue trim. It looks great, but I've yet to find out how long it lasts. When examining droids, you can see about how long the customization will last (although I don't know how the number translated into minutes or hours), but there is nothing like that for vehicle customization.

Also, I've found it nearly impossible to find other vehicle customization tools now that I've seen how cool it can make a vehicle look. I'm guessing that since no one wants a tool that won't last, no one is making them. Also, it's got to be a pain for artisans to have to get droid parts.

I agree that the life span should be increased until the overall consensum of the community is that they are worth purchasing. It's not like the tools are thought of as a reliable source of revenue for artisans.

Well, I make them on Valcyn and I find they sell in spurts, with none sold for a while and then all of a sudden a whole heap of people coming along and buying me out. It seems that everyone who uses them tends to run out at the same time, so buy a lot more.

Keep looking, you'll find a shop that sells them somewhere.

I made 1000 of them when they first came out.

I've still got about 800 of them left.

The colors are so weak that I don't even bother to paint my speeders.

It just looks like somebody bought some spray paint from Wal-Mart and painted it.

I wanted a nice white speeder but instead it looks sort of powdery.

I imagine that a lot of other people feel the same way.

I, for one, wish they'd increase the time. I think they have it so low in hopes people would buy more of them. The problem is, it's having the opposite effect I think. I'm seeing less and less colored rides out there.

Yeah, the current lifespan of the color isn't long enough.

Still, I'm one of those that always colors my bikes. Though only the "trim" color. That default bright red is a bit much for my eyes.

I seem to sell quite a bit of them. I sell them singles and by the crate. Ironically, its the crates that sell the fastest. I'm not sure how many I sell (never really thought about it) but I think i'm on my 3rd or 4th factory run after4 months of selling them.

Personally, I think the current lifespan is fine. I think its more an education thing than lifespan to get the sales to increase. You'd be surprised how many players don't know you can colour your vehicles.

The best reason I ever had to color my bike was identification. Me and a couple of friends would do a mission, then go back and play musical chairs trying to figure out whose bike was whom's.

I'd make the things, short lifespan or not, but for thedroid storage compartment. Too much hassle to keep yet another subcomponent around, when your MArch/MArt. Let's see, crates of fiberplast panels, reinforced fiber panels, synthetic cloth, power conditioners, GP modules, energy distributors.... The last three lock me into remaining Master Artisan, just so I don't have to go find a source.

would be nice, if in addition to coloring the vehicle, you could plant a temporary name on it, so that it would read "Hakai's Speederbike Swoop" when applied.

or heck, maybe we should be allowed to have bumper stickers (temporary tags that list right below the item name)....lol. "I brake for nobody"

What I wish they would do is to allow you to use the paint kits to extend the existing paint job on your speeder/swoop. A person would buy a paint kit then and use all the charges to make their paint job last a long time and not have to bother with figuring out what colors they used before. That change would keep the sale rate constant while increasing the lifetime of the paint job to something more reasonable for the consumer.

With all the other more pressing and important issues that need to be addressed, I would say our chances of getting anything done is slim and none till sometime after JTL...

I think the lifespan of the painting is fine but i think there should definatly be alot more colors to shoose from, Change the style of the Trim, May be put a couple Vynals on it (Sticker like things) and DEFINATLY change the name of the speeder when you first get it out from;-

'Speeder Bike'

to something like

'Loc's Speeder Bike'

This should be automatic, the amount of times i have had to stor and then get my bike out again because i cant find it in a group is stupid lol

I pretty much gave up making these, I did find a crate in my house the other week & put them on my vendor in singles, I've sold 1 custom tool for about every 3 or 4 bike sales. Not bad, I do wish they would increase the decay rate.

What i did to make em is go novice DE & make the droid part myself (only takes like 80 units of metal for 1 compartment) so i made a schematic for 1000 & make only about 100 to start & turned them into 100 custom kits to sell. Since i did everything myself i sell them for @ 500 credits for 9 uses. Its not worth paying 4-5k for one kit if its going to fade out quickly.

I gave up painting my own bikes too, if i do paint any it'll be my AV-21 (even though the base colors on the AV-21 are very nice compared to the original 3 bikes)
