Thread: Crafting Questions

I'm currently at engineering II, about a third of the way to engineering III. I've noticed that it's taking considerably longer to get skilled up now. I'm wondering how you folks did it- what item(s) did you craft to raise your engineering from 2 to 3, and what did you do with all that product (sell it on the bazzaar, destroy it, give it away, etc.)?

Please forgive the "n00biness" of my questions... I really don't have any idea what I'm doing

I generally sell what i make (the good stuff that is). The bad stuff I destroy.

If you want to grind I believe Bone Armor gives the best xp for that level.

In Beta most peoplecrafted their own stuff so selling wasn't really an option. So i ended up grinding and destroying.

In Live, much to my delight, I have sold pretty much everything I made to get up to Engie III. Helped out my skills and my pocketbook.

Good Luck! =)

I made shorts. Went from about 1000 xp to the 3000 needed for eng III in around 45 minutes or so. It tookaround 500 or so of aluminum and <some chemical I have since forgotten>

I'm currently working my artisan up through engineering 1 to 4. The questions I have about skilling up are: does the type of resource and complexity of schematic have any bearing on the amount of xp i get when I make the item.

More simply put, what does have an effect on amount of xp gained per make.

Also does the type of material I use have any bearing on the final items quality, for instance I can use many types of metal but will copper be inferior to say steel?

As far as I've seen, the amount of EXP is basicaly related to the amount of resources required.

As to quality, the type of material isn't the key, but the stats are. If you look at the schematic in the crafting window, lower right corner, it will tell you what stats on the material affect the quality of the item. For example a CDEF uses Overall quality and conductivity. The material with the highest combined stats in those two areas will give you the best result.

Complexity of the schematic is all that counts. Don't bother expirementing either it doesn't add any extra xp. Use practice mode when you grind it has no effecton xp either and is faster.

Hey all, I have a (hopefully) fairly simple question. I started off as an artisan when I first started playing, reached master and then kind of went on to explore different things. Anyway, I'm back to artisan now and am wondering something. Recently some friends asked me to make them some crafting tools and such. The previous day I was making some for other people and was getting a tool effectiveness of around -3.48, then all of a sudden, the next day I was getting results of around 11-12 and then a few hours later back to -3.48. During all this I'm pretty sure I was using the same resources (although I'm not entirely positive). Someone said there may have been some type of droid around that was boosting experimentation results. Is this possible and if so, what droid is it? Also, if I did happen to be using different resources, do they really make that huge of a difference?

Thanks for the help

resources make a huge difference. examine them and try to use resources with almost all stats above 800, then experiment as much as you can

Does experimenting actually do anything to crafted instruments?

Nothing of any value - you MIGHT be able to increase durability & have it decay slower but i'm not sure on that. Otherwise nope no reason to experiment.

I have asked the devs to make instrument quality matter. One possibility is that it might, in thefuture, affect the speed with which we buff. Right now, though, instrument quality does not seem to matter at all.

Another question -- does the game actually store the experimented value even though there is no display of the "quality"?

If they do make quality matter, will all the current instruments out there all instantly suck? E.g., assuming that people don't experiment the item because there is no need to in the current implementation.

Personally, I would experiment it as much as possible just because I find the experimenting part of crafting fun. But I imagine a lot of people just want to crank out the instrument as fast as possible and be done with it.

Also, I've seen Instrument Assembly skill tapes. I presume this behaves like the other crafting professions where each 10 skill points equals 1 extra experimentation point, limited to a total of 12 experimentation points (2 more than the 10 you have a master musician).

It would be really cool if they made musician crafting more complex than the current token craftable items. A ME/MM/MD doesn't have many skill points left over to use on something else, so the instrument crafting is pretty much it for something you can craft up to master levels (10 exp points).
