Thread: Question of the Day 8-1-03
Good Afternoon!
This afternoons topic is the upcoming patch that is currently on the test server. What are your thoughts on the things contained in the patch that will effect Artisans?
Not going to finish what we need fixed, but it clears up some of the immediate clutter.
Now, if I could only see the neclaces again....
I am ecstatic about the Sampling fix. Makes AFK sampling less profitable, and also makes sampling fun! I mean, having it be interactive and you get a bonus for actually being at your keyboard is great!
Ans also, survey and crafting missions? What can I say? Woot!

The bazaar changes will be nice.
If they work.
The survey and crafting missions coming from terminals will be good for new players.
If they work.
I dont see much else that impacts artisans (vs advanced crafting professions)
Regards,
Artuk
Keep up the great work everyone!!
I think that whoever thinks that sitting in front of a screen watching nothing happen for 34 out of every 35 seconds can have ANYTHING done to it that will make it fun and exciting is absolutely bonko crazy.
Make sampling 7 second delay for n00b artisans, after you hit eng III and can make your first harvester every additional sample you take will be a 1 unit sample to tell properties. Or some such method to allow new folks to get up and running but very quickly force you to shift to harvesters, either your own or someone elses.
Okay cdale, let's go with that idea then.
I'm an artisan, and I just got Engineering III. "Yay!" I say, "Now I can build harvesters". I go to gather the resources needed to build my own harvester and.....I get 1 unit a sample. Wow, great. To make a Wind harvester I only have to do this 200 times with 4 different types of resource. Or risk my neck and do enough destroy missions to earn the money to buy one.
And you say waiting 30 seconds for a sample is boring? That sounds pretty darned boring to me. I either wait forever for the resources, or I have to do a bunch of combat. Now, I dunno about most people, but I definitely didn't become an artisan to do lots of combat. If I wanted that's I'd be a marksman or brawler.
I think the method they came up with is great.

Have you heard of delivery missions? They *gasp* don't involve destroying things.
I dont' care where you switch to 1 per. Maybe its engineering 4, I don't care. The point is sampling should ONLY be to get the noob started.
I just don't see the mindset where the devs can EVER take a process that is 34/35 = 97.1% NOTHING HAPPENING and the 1/35 where something happens....YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING, and expect to ever make it an enjoyable, fun part of the game that people will not find a way to automate.
I ran two delivery missions the first day I placed my first harvester. Have not had to run a single one since then and I have 18 installations I run. Maybe put in a sub-class of mini-personal harvesters at Novice Artisan with 100 maintenance per day, 0 power (built in solar panels) and provides 500 units per day.
I for one do not like the changes. After all, I'm not part a huge consoritium, guild or have my own business. I'm just trying to work my way up the skill tree. I don't have a lot of money so I don't build harvestors, but I have enough money that I can go wherever I please. The sampling macro is my way of getting resources so I can get my skills. It takes too long otherwise. I'm not looking forward to the change.
