Thread: Hey Dev's! Artisans need more structure lots!

Okay, sue me for illegal use of exclamations and yell if this has already been brought up, but I'm doing it again...

I can understand limiting other professions to 10 structure lots, but as an artisan I am in need of more. I don't want these extra lots for more harvesters, however. I have found that having 1 power generator and 5 harvesters gets me all the material I need. No, what I need is lots for storefronts for vendors and for factories.

A small house is 2 lots, and I need this as a minimum to put in a vendor. As a merchant, I can have a max of 6 (or is it 7?) vendors. If each is in a small house, thats is 2 (or 4) more lots than I am allowed, and that isn't counting the fact that I can no longer have harvesters or factories since my lot allowance is gone.

How about adding a storefront structure, instead of having us use houses? It'll give the architect something else to build and sell (especially important if you add a Miner profession and transfer harvesters to the Miner tree). Or at least add lots in the advanced professions. Something needs to be done.

Hmm...

Last I checked a small house is one lot and can have multiple vendors in each house. If your small house is taking up two lots /bug it or see if you happen to have a forgotten harvester up some where...

I've had a customer service ticket go unanswered for a couple of days now, regarding the fact that I'm missiong a lot. If houses take up 2, then that would explain it. I didn't realize that. Is that actually how it's supposed to be?

Small houses take two. At least I had to free up 2 lots to place my house.

Odd.

On the last shift on my server I had 9 lots open after taking all my harvesters down...

When did you place your house Hap?

What floor plan do you have?

Maybe either I'm bugged, quite possible, or lot share has been adjusted or who knows I could just be daffy.

I think most small houses take up two lots. However, I do know that the small round naboo houses (style 2 I think it is) only take up one.

Mine is a Small Corellia 2. I had 10 full lots after placing 2 new wind generators after a resource shift (the old ones were running their maintenance out at 11% efficiency). I tried to place the house and expected an error. I did not expect a message saying I needed to free up 2 lots. No big deal, but I was under the impression that small houses were 1 lot as well.

All houses take up 2 lots. If yours doesn't, it's bugged.

Having 10 lots is plenty. The problem lies in the fact that you can't place vendors in other players' houses, because the "Drop" command is broken. The idea of having limited lots is so that players will depend on each other.

My 10 lots are eaten up by a Medium House, 4 factories, and 4 Heavy Mineral Mining Installations. I rely on other players who play a "miner" role to get me resources. I sell my surplus stock to Merchants, who in turn, re-sell my product to others. My house has only my most elite weaponry on sale.

Work your lots, be efficient, use others. Don't complain about lot shortage.

(BTW, 10 lots = 5 houses, more than enough to place 1 on each buildable planet. A Merchant shouldn't be wasting lots on Harvesters, while a Weaponsmith shouldn't be building many Shops. That's why they're different professions.)

The problem is people want to becompletely self sufficient.

If you want more stores, you'll just have to find a merchant to act as your outlet. That's the way it's supposed to work, the merchant class isn't there as a side track for producers, it's supposed to be stand alone as well.

Let me set the record straight...

I am a Merchant Armorsmith. To be able to make armor at a reasonable rate, I need factories. I need harvesters to get materials. I need houses for storefronts to place vendors.

Relying on others to supply raw materials isn't a problem AS LONG AS they don't charge the outrageous prices some people seem to think materials are worth. Those people are few and far between. I can't possibly sell armor at the price I would have to charge to recover my expense at buying the resources involved in its manufacture, so I have my own harvesters.

Ditto factories. I need identical items from factory crates to make armor, and the prices people are charging are more than I can possible sell the piece of armor for. Its cheaper for me to pay the money to a tailor for the schematic and put it into my own factory.

I should not have to rely on othersto place my vendors, except to purchase the place to put them. We need actual stores, not a house. I said this in a post on the Merchant board, I am not running a home-based business, I'm trying to form a corporation. Either make vendors their own structure or give me lots so that I can place my vendors. I shouldn't have to go begging to someone (who, because of business 3 already has a vendor in their house) to place a vendor in their home. I want a store that looks different from Naboo style 1 so that people running by can see that "hey, there is a store here" and come in.

Interdependancy is one thing, but it can get out of hand, and has done so with this subject.

That's where the Devs (and me) differ from you. The merchant class is designed to fill these roles. Effectively if you have a merchant manage your distribution for you you ARE doing what you want, the only difference is there's a PC involved instead of just NPC's.

How about this? I had 9 lots filled and tried to place a small generic house. Couldn't do it. I trashed one of my machines and placed the house. Alright cool. Done deal.

I checked my lots. And I have 1 left. What?! I had 8 + 2 =10 um... ok? So I built another harvester and placed it and to this day I can do that.

So at the moment I have

1 house
1 medium harvester
3 windmills
4small harvesters
1 wearables factory

1+1+3+4+1 =10

Each one taking only 1 lot. But the house only took 1 after I placed it it wouldn't let me place with 9 lots takenIs this right? Am I special? I dunno it just works.

btw I have a merchant friend who sells most of my stuff as well. Being tailor AND merchant right now would be too tedious for me.

What if you don't speak English?

Like, my dad doesn't, but he adores the game. So how does he contact a merchant? His business is expanding, but all lots are taken now. Miners SURELY need more lots. Merchant need to be able to build STORES. And then it would be all more balanced...

Thanks,
