Thread: The problem with powerups and the solution

Don't get me wrong. I love powerups. I used them all the time. But in the end I found it way to annoying having to open up my inventory, finding the crate (which was usually in a backpack), getting an item from the crate, dragging that item ontop of my weapon to insert the powerup. This is just too much trouble for something that will only work for a few minutes. Simply put, I stopped using them all together. I'm sure there are others out there as well who have stopped using them, or only use them in PvP for just this reason.

I have a solution which may or may not have been brought up before (heck as I'm writing this I'm not even sure if they've done this allready, since I'm coming back to the game after 5 months absence).....hmmmm......anywho, how about if you could put powerups into your toolbar slot and when you click them there, they are immediately applied to the weapon you have equipped. I think this would make people use powerups much more frequently and hence, boost sales which in turn means more money for the artisans.

What do you guys think?

I stopped using power-up too. The hassle for me isn't the whole clik and drag onto your weapon. My issue is that the quick little text flash that your power up has been used up just gets lost on the screen. There needs to some kind of visiual associated with power-ups. Similar to what is currently used for specials. If you're using a power-up it should be clearly indicated so when it runs outyou know to put a new one in.

Work-Arounds:

1) Put the powerup crates on a toolbar. I personally have all my crated items on toolbar slots. At 6x24, that'sa lot of slots. Makes it much easier to grab items from the crates.

2) In your options dialog (Ctrl-O) on the Chat Text tab (I think), you can color-code phrases. I have mapped the text "The powerup on your" and "has expired." to hot pink. I never miss a message.

3) BIGGER CRATES!!!! YAR! (sorry, had to throw this in! )

And you've been playing for how long?

Give it a year and we'll see how you feel about it then. After having gone through about a hundred crates of powerups this does get pretty tiring. Especially since it can be fixed in such an easy manner.

I'm severely tempted to 1 star you for this kind of stuff..

I keep a lot of powerups 'unpacked' in my inv, so I only have to open inv, drag powerup, close inv. But trust me. This is *NOT* something you want to do when surrounded by nightsisters.

And I'll keep it at that.

Mad.

Well Herb, I started playing on July 13th, 2003, so I've already passed the year mark (couldn't access the forums until earlier this year for some reason, and had to re-register for the forums back in April).

I've carried power-ups, used them, still do occasionally, and never once did it cross my mind that it's too much work to use them. Anyway, 1-star me if you must, but that is the laziest thing I have ever heard. "I can't believe that I have to click twice, AND drag a power up onto my weapon... how can they expect so much from me??"

Map the crates to a F-key slot or map the wheel click on your mouse to a double-click (it's an Artisan thing) and you don't even have to double-click.

I stopped using powerups too, but not for the same reason.Having to apply another powerup every few minutes is somewhat anoying, however it's not nearly as bad as having your weapon decay 5x as fast as without one.

Actually it's click one to access inventory, double click the backpack, click and hold on the crate and move the arrow to the get item from crate button and release. Then go back to main inventory click and hold on powerup and drag to gun. Then close inventory. Having to do this every 5 minutes if you want to use alot of powerups IS anoying to me. It may not be annoying to you but I know I'm not alone in this. It has nothing to do with being lazy and to be honest I find your post to be nothing but insulting. If you have nothing constructive to say on this matter then go to your server thread where insulting spam is something people are used to and some even find amusing.

That's because I was insulting you and your whiny post. You claim there is a problem with power ups in your title, but there is no problem with them. The problem lies with the user andthe location in which you choose to keep your power-ups...

Don't keep your power-up crate in your back pack Herb, and it wouldn't be so hard on you. If you keep it in your main inventory, you can simply double click on the crate itself to withdraw an item from a crate (circumventing that troublesome double-click on the backpack), and then you can drag it onto a gun.But as we all know, you can't withdraw items from crates while in combat, so you should have taken a few power-ups out of the crates before you started fighting, and then it's a simple click and a drag... doesn't get much easier than that. Hope that helps Herb, and I hope you join the ranks of the power-up users once again, so we can sell more of them.

First, my post wasn't whiny. It was simply a constructive post with an idea on how to change the use of powerups to increase their sale and use by making it easier for the consumer to use them.

As for why I keep my power-ups crated and in the backpack, it's simply because I'm a BH/Commando and I have a truckload of different weapons/armor, BH droids and suchto use in different situation. My main inventory is always full to the brim with stuff I use regularly. Things like crated powerups, food, drinks, spice, droid batteries and such stay in my back pack because there's simply no room for them in my main inventory. I know you can't take them out of the crate during a fight and I always took one out before the fight and applied it to the weapon. But it's still just as many clicks.

If you were against this idea then a simple constructive critisism would have sufficed. There's no need for name calling.
