Thread: Is Artisan a viable profession for a casual gamer?
Well, I've yet to get past third tier Artisan, so I guess I'm lagging behind the mega power drones who've mastered an advanced profession. Funny thing is, the drones are... well, I hate to say it, but they're stupid. Or maybe a better term would be narrowly focused, but it amounts to the same thing. They miss really obvious opportunities to turn big profits in their race to the top, and it's not practical for them to come back and dominate those markets once they're masters.
It takes some analysis to succeed, but not a great deal. You're up against computer gamers. You can be sloppy. It's not brain surgery.
and the intent would be to make your living off other players?? No I dont think so..
if the intent would be to supply yourself and a few friends during thier casual game
play.. yes, you could do it easily... but not casual and become a driving force in the economy...
I have been playing non stop since launch... just taking time to sleep and I have had a hard
time keeping up with some of the stronger PAs out there as far as armor crafting is concerned...
you have to figure thats almost 100 hours of game play... in one week....
at 2-4 hours a day pace, it would take you 20 days to catch me... and there are guys at least 15 hours or more ahead of me.
Well, I wasn't in beta, but I'm playing an Artisan now. I think casual players can enjoy playing artisans and even be profitable at it. However, you won't be making the amount of cash the powerlevelers are, but you won't work as hard either.
I consider myself a secondary market crafter. Most of the power levelers have moved on beyond CDEFs, but I can still make a profit selling experimented CDEFs. Lots of people are making bone now, but I've still been able to sell as much as I can make.
Just enjoy the game, don't worry about leveling so much, and you can have a great time.
but if your putting in time, youd like to know how you stack against others that are
putting in just as much time. On my server, I dont see very much competition among the
high levels... most of us are trying to pass along knowledge of shortcuts or more
efficiant ways to mine/harvest craft...
while i understand its a MMRPG there is no 'winner' competition is a human trait, and we
are very much human... of course we are going to compete...
It's more about having fun than leveling, anyway--even if I was playing twenty hours a day, I'd rather have a good time and play in character than sit around grinding. If other people get more reward out of that, then more power to 'em... I'd say it's a benefit of the game that it can support both.
I'm a casual gamer, and up to Engineering III without too much effort. I alsogather my ownbone and hide during surveying expeditions. You will not rake in cash since the bazaar is slow but I make a fair amount. The good part is that the powergamers will rush to the top and leave a large hole for the discerning buyer who takes the time to actually look at the stats and not just buy the weapon name.
The whole thing with selling on the bazaars is marketing. Instead of just seeing 100 CDEF pistols on the market, take the time to customize the name of your CDEF pistol. Come up with a slogan. When in doubt, undercut your competition. If you see that everyone is selling their CDEF pistols for 100 credits, sell yours for less. This will earn you name recognition. Eventually, when the economy comes around, people will remember buying from you and you will have repeat customers!
P.S.- Look for my goods on your local bazaar!
If you see me in game, give me a holler!

Also ... look for a nitch.
One is the selling of musical instruments to mucisians. Everyone seems to forget about them but they need their instruments from someone ![]()
And there is the market for the newbie beginning instrument that a new musician needs if he did not start out with that profession as his first choice.
Or go for master artisan and sell the items that only he can make that driod artisans need. Not many folks for full artisan so not that many really there.
Or be a bartender and have a hella good time Role Playing a bartender ... this is the RP server after all ![]()
I noticed that in Mos Eisley on my server, there were no survey kits except for a few that almost nobody needs (like wind). So, I've made some money crafting servey devices, and they sell real fast. You know you've hit a nitch market when you can sell 3 or 4 in half an hour.
I'm sure there are other "holes" that need filling in the economy. The trick is to listen to other players that gripe about what is missing, and then fill that gap!
