Thread: Master Artisan...Is it worth it?
Short answer, Yes.
Slightly longer answer, <explitive> YES!
Best answer. Ask an armorsmith and weaponsmith, who is PAST the first row of skills, if they can make everything they need, and if any of the items that a master artisan gets are needed.
I know that an architect needs bits and pieces to make certain things. In beta, I got the second box for building houses, and found MA crafted items as ingredients for medium houses. Even a novice arthictect needs a electronics GP module to make a torch, and I don't know what good it does, but micro sensor suites are an optional component for crafting stations, (all four of mine are fully equipped.

Maybe it makes it more effective, maybe I made a mistake of including the extras.)
I have been told, that droid engineers need MA crafted items as well.
I honestly don't know about armorsmiths and weaponsmiths, but I suspect they do need them.
Sorry for the multiple posts. SOMEhow, I was typing my message and hitting "submit post" with the SAME keystrokes.
Kalano, Sorry, did the shared component crafting in DAoC, it sucks.
-IF you agree to be on 100% of the time when your partner wants a piece, and to be crafting for them,or
-IF you agree to keep a vendor stocked with every possible usage combination you partner might want in quantities that excede what they might want...
-THEN shared crafting works, well they are happy but you are a bit screwed...
Really, what happens if they come home from work stressed out and decide to craft for an hour or three, but you had the sheer audacity to go to a movie that night. They are now stuck either being unable to craft, or needing to find alternate supply sources, or just doing the grunt work themselves. The last being really the only viable solution.
If you want to save skill points, find someone who is a MA and buy parts from them. I am a MA trying to start a business of selling said parts at a very low price. If you get MA, you eat up skill points you can use elsewhere, but if you have points to burn, go for it. It all depends on what you want in the futur for you characture. that is my 2 credits worth

How could anyone live without the skill to make the Nemoidian Birdcage?
So true, don't know what you other folks talking about sensor suites, Power conditioners, or what ever... I had to have a Nemoidian Birdcage.
But on a serious note, it all depends on what profession you're going after. DE's need master arty components by the crate. Architect use them for a few things, weaponsmiths have a few weapons that use them (the only ones worth crafting with them are a the melee ones), and I'm not sure about Armorsmiths.
I say why not master it, take home ec for an evening or two, its not that many skill points or XP really. And it seems like everyone is forgetting, you can surrender skills. If you master it and later find you need some points... give them the ol' 86.

Well if you end up surrendering MA you will lose all of your apprentice point's, those were not easy to get.

Well, I don't really agree with you on the apprentice points schpiel. I racked up over 1200 over the past few weeks very easily. While you're in town, run around with your artisan tag (be it Engineer, Homemaker, etc) on and shout from time to time "Training Engineering I through IV, Domestic Arts I through III, etc, etc." while you're crafting or jaunting back to get a few missions. I've made an amazing amount of friends that way and, as I said, a ton of apprentice points.
Thank's for the reply's and advice, going to train MA when I get home in the morning. I'm convinced the game will be alot different a year from now so who knows what my main profession will end up being........
I did it just for the birdcages
/em stares are her birdcage.
Now if I could only figure out what its for!!!!!!!!!
Another advantage to maxing out the DA column of the artisan onion. Experimentation points stack.
A human with the full Eng line and the full DA line has 11 experimentation points to play with. I think it's 10 for the other races. (Of course, I think a fish who maxes architecture gets 11 such points to a human's 10, so it balances.)
Two points that some have forgotten.
It is EASIER to get apprenticship exp AFTER you get MA, because people KNOW you have the skill they need, so you replentish your apprenticeship exp pretty quickly.
On the flip side, if you have a factory, and you KNOW a master artisan, you should be able to get them to make you the necessary schematics, once, for 1000 items, and use that in your factory to make your OWN components, when you need them and not when your MA friend is on.
I still say being a MA is worth it, however.
