Thread: Unattended Macroing CSR Response
Alot of people are posting about unattended macroing, and some people are quoting from the EULA, which is very general.
I checked with a CSR, and they confirmed that at the moment, unless otherwise stated, it is legal, however dont come running to them when you get killed by a creature.
Now you can check with a CSR if you want, however, if everyone does that at once i'd guess they'll get upset ![]()
Yes, very much appreciated. I've only afk/macro sampled a few times, but don't do it anymore since I have my harvesters. This is still nice to know.
Thanks

Can you post the exact question asked, and the exact response along with the name of the CSR?
Obviously if you ask "can I run this looping macro to sample?" the answer is going to be yes because you are playing.
If instead you asked "Can I leave my character logged in all day while I go to work with a macro running to sample ore" and the CSR said "sure, no problem" - then I'd guess a bit of "re-training" is in order.
I'm pretty sure that they are "not responding" to AFK Macroing issues just yet, since there are many more important CS issues to be dealt with- but that is most likely a temporary thing - which may, or may not get an "official annoucement" when it ends.
There would be no point to having those statements in the EULA if they did not intend to enforce them at some point.

umm.. I think unless he gave the question in a confusing or truly misleading way, the answer is the answer...
I don't really think there is much practical difference between "Is it ok to macro sample" and "Is it ok to set a looping macro that allows me to sample while I leave my computer and go to work". The effect is the same and judging by the CSR's response they knew exactly what he was talking about.

Nope, it's the "unnattended" part - while you are not really playing that is the crux of this issue and the EULA restrictions. How the question is asked makes all the difference in the world.

again, judging from the response, the CSR knew very well what he meant. You may not like the answer, but stop belaboring the point. It is legal and no matter how much of a fuss you want to raise it is still legal. It is highly frowned upon, maybe it will be changed in the near or distant future, but in the meantime you really just have to accept it and move on...

That is all I asked for. As yet, I have not seen the CSR Response nor the question asked of the CSR, only the summary interpretation of the original poster. I have dealt with people long enough to know that "what they say" happened is often quite different from what actually happened and that people will generally phrase statements in a manner that supports thier viewpoint.
Of course, I do the same thing - which is why I include official supporting documentation to back up my points when I post.
If you want to justifyyour decision toignore the contract (EULA) you agree to followbased on a post from someone you don't know who is obviously not working for SOE, who says "he called a CSR and they said it was Ok" - go ahead.
Guess how well that reasoning will fly with the CSR contacting you about violating the EULA? Think "lead brick".

Unfortunately, that's probably all you're going to get, since CSR doesn't post nor read here (at least I've never seen them post here).
I'll admit I'll give it a shot and send a ticket and ask the questions posted here. I'll even try and include screenshots of the conversation, just so everyone knows the response. As I've mentioned, this is an issue that has been beat quite dead, and I for one would like to see a definitive answer to the debate so we can all move on to important things.
If anyone else has taken screenshots of this already, feel free to beat me to the punch. One thing though: regardless of the response, one way or the other, once this gets posted lets stop the argument then and there. I'm sure Artisans have much more pressing things to discuss (IMHO).

Maybe if we do a "mystical macro dance" and recite the entire SWG Prologue text backwards we can summon a response about the "current policy" vs. "what is actually being enforced" from the amazing CSRPatrickM! :-)
Stranger things have happened.

I dont have a copy of it anymore, it was last week i got it clarified.
I did state categorically that it was "unattended macroing"
And from the CSR's response about "if you die dont come running to us" i'm pretty sure they knew what i meant.
Off course it could just be one CSR's view of the answer, and plenty of other mmorpg's have had different gm's give different views. I'll ask again to get a clarification just so we can all have something in text once and for all, and i'll copy the exact question and response.

Ask specifically if you are allowed to run your looping sample macro overnight while you sleep or while you go to work - as opposed to puttering around the house checking back in every so often.
