Thread: I need any and all info on Harvesters PLEASE...
Ok, so I got Surveying4 and Eng3 last night, and wanted to make a Harvester before bed time so I could get resources while I slept...
I made the Mineral Harvester Deed, and was eventually able to place it (you'd think it would be written somewhere that you can't place a Harvester 1000 meters from a city...)
So onceI found some land where to place hte Harvester, I did so. But this is where I got "stuck". How do I power this thing? I put 1500 credits into the maintenance (I think that lasts me 2 days) but there was also a spot for "power desposit" or something like that. I would turn the Harvester on, but everytime I clicked "Close" it seemed like it shut off. Plus, I could not see any immediate results. That may be a problem right there, expecting immediate results, but I wanted to make sure I was doing this right.
In the ended I destroyed the Harvester and reclaimed my deed...
So basically I am asking for any and all info on Harvesters. Where to place them, how to place them, what the Maintenance costs are, the Power costs (and how to get power to supply them with), which Harvesters are best to start out with, how many Harvesters a player can have at one time, how much I should sella Harvester for in the Bazaar, will I get Crafting Exp if someone were to use a Harvester I built and sold them, and anything else I should need to know...
Thanks...
Yes, you need power to get a harvester going. In a working system, it takes about 400 power to power a harvester for a day. What you need to do is create a Wind Generator. Once you have one, you get power from it in the form of a resource you take from it and put in your Mineral Extractor. That's how you power it.
Yeah, what he said. Also: I've noticed that diffent winds have different potental energy. Use the wind collection rate times the potental energy to select which wind to havest.
You have 10 lots on your character. Each of the artisan collecters take one lot. I'm not sure about archetect built havesters but they may take more for the big ones. These lots are also used for houses. So if you have to choose, alot of harvesters or a cool house.
Create a Harvestor Deed and a Wind Generator Deed. Head out on a run and keep pushing my "WhereamI" Macro. Once that didn't reply with a city or a NoBuild Zone I started looking for a good place to put both.
Than I surveyed for Metals till I found a Concentration of 50% or better. Than placed my Wind Generator down and added Credits and turned it on.
Then I placed my Harvestor, added credits and selected the Resource I wanted to Harvest.
By this time My Wind Generator had a few Wind Powercells I could Retrive and run over to my Harvestor, place Power into it and turned it on.
Then I went out and found something else to sample nearby, Wood or Friuts. I then Sampled for awhile and crafted.
Once I reached the point where I needed rest before I could sample again, I ran to my Wind Geneartor, retrieved Power, deposited it in my Harvestor, retrieved what the Harvestor had Harvested and went back to sample area to craft and sample again.
A more enjoyable way would be to group up with others and give them Admin rights to retrieve and add to the Harvestor. Share the expense and the Goods with your group and it makes time FLY!! :-)
Good thread, this helped a first-time user of Harvesters out a great deal this morning.
Snogger - care to tell us what your "WhereamI" macro consists of? I haven't figured out a quick way to find places that aren't in the "NoBuild" zone.

OK, this is what I Believe it is(I am at work so can't look at my macro)
/who Snogger
Again I think that's all there was to it.. It basically reply with:
Snogger in city x on Planet x..
Once you left city limits you would get:
Snogger in "No_Build" On Planet x
Soon you would just get Snogger on Planet x and I knew I could start looking for a place to build.
Again, this is from Beta, but the /who command(If that's the way it's done)
IF someone else could verify....
OK, here's a question then. If the wind generators put out "power" as a unit to be put into the harvesters, can you use mined radioactive metals as a power source? They have PE listings on them.
Kordak
Exactly as you said Snogger... It's /who NAME so my macro says /who GoCanes
Info provided with the macro is similar to what Snogger says... All you have to do is create the macro and drag to a F key and hit the F key when you want to know if you're in a buidl zone or not...
