Thread: Speeder business in the trash

With the new skiff, my speeder business is going to take a hit for a while, and the V-35 is now officially useless. Swoops are so low-margin, they're pointless to produce, and that was the only remaining vehicle people want(ed) to buy. Guess I won't be starting my next factory run after all.

Only the people who pre order the expansion will be able to get the skiff so it really shouldn't affect your business too much. Anyone who joins the game after the release date or anyone who didn't pre order will still have to rely on our vehicles.

I thought it was coming with the digital download? If so, no matter when they buy it.. they will get it. I just got ROTW a month ago, and I got the varactyl from the digital download.

Regardless, the "flash speeder" didn't kill our business, the Barc didn't kill our business.. I highly doubt the Skif will either. I am highly disappointed we won't be able to craft them tho, I was hoping for that.

People will still need bikes, whether it be swoops or what not.

The fact that it's not craftable it what galls me aswell. I mean, at least both the BARC and the Flash Speeder has crafted counterparts with similar stats. The skiff is going to be both the fastes multiplater vehicle as well as the one capable of carrying the largest amount of passengers.

How's the market for vehicles today anyway? I had a master artisan 'round when they were first released but back then, the hologrinders kept the resource prices high so using the resources to make competingly priced vehicles meant you lost money.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'd say there's a fair chance the skiff will be repaired with repair kits we can craft, thus improving the market for those. Depending onthe economic's of your particular server, we might make more moneyfrom selling repair kits than we'd do if we sold the vehicles themselves.

So far, I do not believe the "reward" vehicles have had any significant impact on vehicle sales.

The flash speeder is so slow that nobody really wants to use it. It's more of an emergency backup vehicle so you don't have to walk all the way home when your swoop gets blown up. Not everybody has one, and the people that do pretty much use them to drive to a vendor that's selling swoops.

The BARC is a highly desirable vehicle but since they are only available with the purchase of TTE and they are limited to only one per account, there's most likely fewer of them than AV-21's.

The new skiff will be the same way. You will have pre-order the expansion to get it, it's no-trade, and you only get 1 per account. Basically if you don't buy the expansion prior to release, you'll never get one. Even if you do pre-order, you won't be able to sell it.

Now, in my opinion, the thing that HAS hurt vehicle sales is the increase of the bazaar price cap to 20k.
At 2cpu, swoops should cost 16k.
Odds are that even with grind quality materials the resources required to make one could be sold for 3-5cpu (variable by server).
So instead of using smart business sense, people dump these things on the bazaar for 20k (nobody in their right mind would have sold them for 6k) and that drives the global price for them down to that level.
Personally, I refuse to sell something that requires effort on my part to make for less money than I can get from the raw materials so I'd rather stop selling vehicles altogether than waste my time on something that is, ultimately, unprofitable.

Reward Vehicles are a great source of income.
Just make the Vehicle Restoration Kits so they can fix them and price them slightly above reasonable.
They sell super quick. My vendor is 3 klicks from the nearest shuttleport and I still manage to sell about 25 Vehicle Restoreation Kits a day.

Think of it as supplementary income.

When I get of my lazy A$$ and mine asteroid minerals and then subsequently make the restoration kits, they sell within 20 mins of hitting the vendor. Unfortunately there is no way to tell if they are profitable. I don't have a y-8 so its mining in my fighter.

Is 40 mins to get the 3000 required resources worth 400k ? Thats 10 000 cr per minute of my time when I am really on the mining ball. Maybe with pub 24 when the yield doubles the prices can get more in tune.

A large cargo bay (which I can fit into my regular crafted Xw with 20K mass to spare with my current, sort-of-crap, configuration) has hold size of 1500+. It makes absoluteley no sense whatsoever to mine 750 and then switch to a different type of asteroid. It is much, much more economical both in terms of credits and time to fill a hold, unload, and then switch to the other resource.

1.5k units.

I don't even have any on sale atm... I'm saving the materials in case Odi or my Av-21/BARC blows up. I would be happy to sell kits as soon as more people mine and sell the resources.

Will the kits repair Odi if he blows up, too?
