Noob question: is there an easier way to survey for minerals than doing it manually every time? Is there a droid or a macro or something that can take the tedium away from surveying? I've got all the surveying XP I need, I'm just after something to end the aggravation of tracking down good concentrations of minerals. Thanks in advance.

There is no way to track down good concentrations other than hard graft I'm afraid.
You can survey while in a vehicle which makes it a little quicker, and obviously make sure your survey tool it set to the maximum range... but other than that its hard work.

It's not that bad, you can effectively AFK grind a concentration of over 75% or so.

There's no afk way to find a good concentration and ISD's only tell you the spawn names/resource types available on each planet.
One tip I can give ya tho to make it seem a little more painless...
Turn on your overhead map (control + M) and set vehicle to auto-cruise (NumLock). Have a hotkey setup for the default Survey ability and of course, have the tool set for max range. You should be traveling 150-200m per tap until the concentration is maxxed out.
As you approach the high conc wp, hit the Survey hotkey when you're 25m out from it. (should also have Waypoint Meter on) then travel to the next wp and repeat. Between surveys you can hit Alt to clear your screen and drive, whenever you want to see what the concentration is, just hit Alt and bring up the Survey window again.
You'll still end up in Player cities, uneven terrain, water and several other "non-buildable" situations, but at least your moving the whole time.
Good luck.

Of course not, but you can AFK sample for the survey XP.

The way I do it is to go to my trade forums, and post that I'll pay 500k to whoever gives me a waypt for (name of mineral) with 90% or better concentration, and room for 10 harvesters. Have them contact you in-game, so that they don't give the waypoint to everyone on the forum. And make it clear that you're only paying for 1 waypt. Have them contact you to see if they're the first before they just give you the waypt (or they'll all expect you to pay them).
If nobody responds for a while, then bump it up to a mil. Someone will take you up on it. And it sure beats surveying.

Now that we can survey from our vehicles, surveying has sped up a whole lot. Compared to the days when we had to run around to the next waypoint, driving in your fastest speeder from waypoint to waypoint is a piece of cake. in one hour i can survey the entire planet (spare the mountains and water bodies) I usually set a marker at a high spot (75%-80%) then keep going...if i end up not finding a higher spot then i return to that spot and unload my harvies..

Back in the day we had to worry about our mind pool running out while surveying too. You had to get a mind buff and/or use foods to keep your mind pool up enough for surveying. Boy did that ever suck.

lol i remember those days. having to sit and wait for my mind to regenerate. Or worse was when you actually started surveying, and you kept failing to get get any resources, and had to wait for your action to regen. That was when i would just get a action buff, start surveying then go watch TV lol, coming back every now and then to click away any boxes that might appear.

Something like that, ya. I believe you get more xp if you get a better sample though, so make sure you're on a high concentration of whatever you're sampling. Avoid sampling radioactive material.
As for grinding it, there are some macros floating around that can help. You just open your survey tool, find a resource you want to sample (something with high concentration), and run the macro. Something like this should work:
/sample;
/pause 30;
/ui action defaultButton;
/macro (name of your macro), like /macro sample
You can then go afk for a while (actually, this might be against the EULA - so never go afk - so of course you should make sure you're always sitting at your keyboard if you have any macro running). Anyway, you'll rack up surveying xp in no time.
