1) go to items

2)select the surveying tool (mineral tracking device ect.)

3) set the reselution. (do only once)

4) select it again (if needed)

5) select the item you want to find

6) click survey or double click on it

7) once you find a high consentration (atleast 40 and up) press sample

then you wait

this doesn't work for solar energy or wind energy

It does, however, work for radioactive but I wouldn't advise it.

I remember back in the day when I was doing some sampling I tried to sample radioactive, but when I got the warning, I cancelled. I've always wondered? What does happen if you sample radioactive? Does it sap your health?

I tried it once to see what would happen my nice red health bar turned 50% black.

I tricked one of my roomates into sampling it a while back and then laughed at him for 10min... he thought it was the funniest thing.. werid huh

I'm new to the game also. Once you hit survey IV what do you do with extra survey xp you earn? I dont see any other skills that use survey.

Hehe, good to know! I wasn't brave enough to try and considering how hard it is to find a wound healer nowadays...I'm glad I didn't!

It is both random and I suspect has changed over the years. When I was just a young surveyor (circa 2003) I did try to see what would happen. I did sustain wound damage with each sample but no where near 50%.

Sometime in 2004 I tried again for old times sake and got 50% wounds (the black)

All in all I suggest heading the warning and drop a harvester there if you really need a sample. personal mineral harvester is a LOT cheaper than a doctors time to fix you up from 50% damage

The last time I sampled radioactives I got about 1/4 - 1/3 wounds, but that was way before the CU. Now that I'm a TKA Master, I can meditate away wounds. Hmm, I wonder if you can sample while meditating?
