Thread: Resource Turnover Already!?

Well, we've only been live for a week, but here on Bria our very first resource turnover has occured! Half of our minerals on Corellia have plain disappeared, as well as the entire Polymer class of chemicals...I lost a sweet vein of Carbonate Ore that had 994 overall quality literally as I mined it...*sigh*

I don't know if we should expect resources to turn over this often in the future...several beta vets have claimed we should expect this every 2 weeks, but at this rate being an artisan class is going to be a real crap-shoot. Not that I'm complaining, I have a fantasy of being some kind of roving resource scout, selling stacks and vein locations on the open market - with everything moving around so fast this might be actually feasible.

On another note, does anyone have any theories on what triggers turnover? Time? A certain level of resource harvesting? I doubt the latter, since its doesn't seem likely that we mined out both of Corellia's crap-ass polymers.

Same thing happened on Ahazi.

Our fiverplast poofed to be replaced by 2 different kinds. New steel added, new coppers and replaced coppers. Total overhaul of low grade ore. Polymer changes. Addition of Iron, and this is all just on Corellia.

There's going to be some massive running to swap harvester sources this morning after the patch...

This has not happened on Chilastra (Tatooine) yet and hope it doesnt for awhile. Whats the point of getting extractors up if you gotta destroy and rebuild every week?

Crosspost from SWG discussion forum

Gorath server, Naboo - same thing

Last 12 hours 2 important resources went ... "dead". First Quadadeide Copper - I could change this Miner to harvest Steel instead. While in the area I put up a new harvester - for Wicalk Fiberplast. Just found out 1 hour ago that Wicalk no longer is available on the planet. A new type of Fiberplast is there - but nowhere near my harvester - in fact nothing is near that harvester.

I have 2000+ wind energy stored there plus almost 2000 in maintenance fee - and the station is worthless.

3 possibilities :

1. This is a bug - resources should never have shifted/changed - sorry guys we're fixing it ASAP.

2. This is a balancing thing - it will only happen this one time - sorry guys but we had to balance resources across planets - won't happen again - promise.

3. This is by design - resouces DO that - this is implemented to make resource gathering tougher and unpredictable - and to make micromanagement a big part of the game. Sorry guys - no storing maintenance fee and power on your plants for 2 days - resources will probably change before those 2 days run out - we WANT players to be forced to log in every single day and spend 1-2 hours running out to their harvesters and energy providers.

Okay - I can live with 1 and 2 - but 3??? I am wondering why we havent heard a word (that I could find) about this issue (bug or balance) - and would appreciate an answer on this.

But 3??? Nahh - the entire crafting system is closed for me then - and then whats left?

So what do I do now?? Kill my station and throw my stored fee's and power out the window? Leave it there - unproductive in the hope it was just a bug? Set up new harvesters for the new resources? Store new 2000 power on that as well as fee's - only to find out that THOSE resources was the bug.

We really need some answers here.

I know on Bloodfin Naboo Theed, they changed as well. Scared the hell out of me. One thing though, the names have changed, but the spot, I usually get my supplies is still rich in the supplies. Metal is still there in the same %'s, just a different name.

Same thing on Corbantis. I really hope this isn't every week. I also hope it is on a regular interval. It will be difficult if we don't know when it will happen. Every Saturday would be great, but I'm doubting it will be that. And I just finished my excel sheet for Corellia.

Keep ahold of that excel sheet - Just expand it, and put little tags on the things for Available Y/N on the planet. Then just do a sort, and sort by Avail, then by whatever. Thats what I'm doing.

Actually. Dork and proud - i'm building an access database for it. Gotta do SOMETHING while I'm scratching rock.

Yes, it is #3. They speicifically said that resources are dynamic and everchanging. Though, They should not have changed resources so dramatically like that. How coulda resource be in abundany supply and then all of a sudden disappear? Thats not realistic. Now Gorath server on Naboo, the radioactive metal I was mining to power my harvesters has disappeared... The mining profession is the only one that you get any decent money out of at the moment, and they are going to make it extremely difficult to do. The fact that you can't take back the deeds, power, and maintaince money from the harvesters is really stupid if you are going to change the resources. So at a coal mine, if it runs out, the company leaves all the equipment there instead of just moving it to another location? That would be pretty dumb.

I agree that it's very unrealistic to change resources so drastically. I was logged on last night and had a vein of Klono outside of Theed on Kauri server that was over 90%. I logged on 10 hours later and it's gone. I can't even search for it. I know this is not real life but come on. I my spend time trying to find a good source of something and just totally take it away from me...? If you're gonna take a resource away completely do it over time where the resource just drains away until it's gone (accelerate the depletion) not just disappear over night. Either this is a bug or a very bad idea from a development stand point.

Do we have a message from the devs anywhere on this and future occurances and their plans? I realize they wanted a dynamic system but I'm worried like others that a vein doesn't pop, it needs to gradually gradiate.

Yeah, it's number 3. They want the resources to be changing every so often.

It's probably to avoid enormous everlasting fields of mineral extractors where everyone on Naboo heads to x,y on Naboo, everyone on Tatooine heads to x,y on Tatooine and so on.

If the resources were static, we'd just see web sites that would say "On Bloodfin, you can find Aufeism copper at x,y" and there'd be endless fields of extractors there.

I actually like the idea of not having the huge noisy fields of machinery. (for at least a short period of time until everyone comes across the lone extractor and thinks "what is this guy mining?" and finds out for themselves) 8)

As far as not being able to get your maintenance, deed, and power back, that's mostly true. You CAN get the deed back if you've got 1500 maintenance fees. I wish we could get the money and power back, but if it costs me a couple hundred credits to get my deed back versus making a new deed with a couple hundred resources, I'll probably spend the couple hundred credits.

OK, the resource shift is pretty annoying - but I can live with that - what's really bugging me is that when I try to mine the new resources - it doesn't matter how high the density is - I just can't mine it "too low to sample"

The materials that were around before the shift like Penig, are no problem - but the new ones are just not working.

I'm on the Naritus server and have reported it as a bug - but is anyone else experencing it?

Man, this sucks. Here's my sob story:

In Flurry on Naboo there is no longer ANY low-grade ore. Not such a big deal except that harvesters require ore for construction. Luckily i had just emptied a hopper with about 1k l-g ore last night. Now i'm not sure whether to keep it because I'll need it for harvesters until there's another resource shift, or sell it at absurd prices on the bazaar.

If there's no low-grade ore on Naboo, does that mean that it has to come from a different planet now? I think that's a bit of a drastic shift. I could understand a shift of a couple thousand meters, or even across a planet... but I can't even survey for it which leads me to believe that there is none on Naboo. Man, this sucks.
