I have fiberplast and copper with a cond around 875(?) and it seems as if I can´t stand by a public crafting staion and experiment to build better general crafting tools? The ones I tried ended up with a -7.94 effectivnes!
I have bought a general crafting tool with a 14.94 stat and it is this I am trying with!
Is it possible to experimnet on tools? If so, what crafting station should I stand next to?

Generic Crafting Tools can no longer be experimented on. The specific crafting tools can all be experimented on, by using WDG Crafting Tool, and standing near a WDG Crafting Station.
CD 875 metal should give you ((.875 * 30) - 15) = 11.25 effectiveness tools.

If you look at the schematic, you will see that the critical component of the metal is the CD or Conductivity. You can have metal with a high Overall Quality (OQ) that has a mediocre CD.
Working backwards from your results, it appears your copper had a CD 235. The formula is shown in one of the above posts, and the schematic actually shows you the calcuations in the crafting tool.
Check the skill tree here or your schematics to see what the critical qualities are for the materials for the item you intend to build. Just because an resource has a high Overall Quality doesn't guarantee that it won't have a low score in a critical category.
Hope this helps.

Once again, tanks!!
I know of the CD (Conductivity) it was the reason I decided to try to build General tools because i have copper with a CD around 875! It was an surprise for me when I got such a bad result with that copper!
I know I should have used a better CD-resource but i thought the endresult should at least end up with a positive effiencensy instead for the -7.94 it ended with!
Hehe, sorry for all my misspellings! Very tired!

What was your success rating?
The 30 in the equation is the % you get when it tells you what kind of success you had. If memory serves (I am at work so I can't check), , 30 is amazing success.
If you assembly wasn't an amazing success you get a lower score. I believeyou had a success or moderate success to achieve that number with CD 875 because if you do the algebra you will find that the % was a little over 8.
If it had been amazing success, it works out like this....
(.875 * 30) - 15 = 11.25

Hehe! Me and math!
I think it was an 23% success! (With a reservation for an ?)
I shall try it again later today and see what happens!

If you are just a Novice Artisan with no other parts of the tree filled, there are other modifiers in effect. And if you are grinding, I would suggest picking something that gives good XP with few resources, then buying the cheapest resources you can get your hands on. Do your crafting in practice mode. It still eats resources, but there is no product to deal with, and there is a 5% XP bonus.
Also, make yourself an extra crafting tool or two. Put them in hotkeys. If you don't want to mess with macros, that is fine, because this way is almost as fast. Hit the first hotkey. Double click the resources. Hit enter or click through the prompts. As soon as you get through the prompts and it is processing, hit the other hotkey and repeat the process. If you are doing something complex enough that has enoughprocessing time, then add another tool to the loop. This is how I ground up the engineering tree.
And speaking of the engineering tree...if you are going up it, as soon as you hit generators and harvestors, build those. 425 XP each.
Now if I can just get Weaponsmith ground. Only 861,000 XP to go. Yippee! You know how I will be spending my 3 days off!

I am bad. I assumed you had gotten up to Master Artisan, and had full experimentation points available. If you are still working your way up the tree, then you shouldn't be making crafting tools with good resources, because you can't experiment on them fully. It is a wonderful system, where most of the items that have any worth to other players need to be fully experimented, and you can't do that until you have gotten to the master level.
If you look at various boxes in the skill tree, you will see that, along with allowing you new schematics, there are things like artisan assembly +10, or artisan experimentation +10. Engineering and Domestic Arts give you experimentation points as you go up, thus allowing you to fully utilize the stats in the resources that you are using. The next time you get another box in Eng or DomArt, try crafting another tool, and you will notice that you have more experimentation points that you can use, and thus higher final experimentation percentage.

Sorry! Should have mentioned it!!
I am a Master Artisan!
Frustrating that I can´t make a General tool that is better than mentioned above! (If You wonder, have promised a couple of friends to build to them!)
I know I can buy General tools but now I am starting to feel frustrated not understanding what I am doing wrong!

You can't experiment on Generic Crafting Tools. You can experiment on any of the specific crafting tools. Used to be able to experiment on Generics, but that got broken (or fixed) a while ago. Most of what you could craft on a Generic, you can do with a Weapon Droid and General Crafting Tool.

Exactly right. If you're wondering where your 14.94 tool came from it was most likely made before the "fix" which took away the ability to experiment on generic crafting tools. Either that or someone (such as myself) has a schematic that allows them to run factory loads of generic crafting tools with a high effectiveness rating.

That is, you used to be able to run factory loads of Generic Crafting Tools with high effectiveness. Even if you have the schematic and the resources, the factory can't see the schematic any more. I have a schematic for a 14.97 Generic Crafting Tool, and the factory can't see the schematic.
