Thread: Grinding for engineering XP
I'm working on lev 3 engineering.
I'm assuming you get more xp for more complex items, if so, what is the best item and way to level up engineering.
Someone mentioned in an earlier thread that Wind Survey Tools are most efficient. They have the highest complexity for an item that uses 3 of the sameresource type, and from what I can tell, the time it takes for the prototype to be deposited seems to be quite low.
Of course, you'll want to make these in practice mode, as this gives the best XP. I just maxed Domestic Arts III from 0 in about 30 minutes (not going too hard at it) using this method.

Survey tools are pretty good. Crafting stations eat more resources, but give better xp. Do a search on macros and set up a grinding loop - it'll go much faster.
wind tools are the best that I have found (am a noob though) in practice mode you get 33 exp.
run crafting missions for cash, get 1000 (costs 3000) of a metal (steel etc) from the bazaar and just do wind surveyors while you run the missions, I hit engy 3 with 10k in my pocket, full set of armor and a decent carbine, 1 mineral extractor, 1 wind power collector, and am ready to start the bigger stuff.
if you do something at the same time (crafting missions for example) the grind of making tools for exp doesn't seem as bad, you have to stop and wait for shuttles anyhow heh.
thanks,

Please don't do bone armor unless you plan on mkaing it decent. The bazarr is flooded with bone armor with incredibly bad ratings, hurting those who actuallly make good stuff.
i worked engineering, business and domestic art at the same time ( not training until i had xp enough to raise all) did this by surveying for copper wich i used for all slots in the production of gas pocket survey tool, in practise mode this didnt take long time at all.....
have fun! ![]()
I found Reinforced Combat Staves to be the best XP per time (though not per resource). While it requires some more specific resources (ferrous metal as well as wood) those are very easy to come by, and you get the design for it at Engineering II.
One Reinforced Combat Staff in practice mode generates 84 xp, while a Wind Survey Tool in practice mode only generates 33. And they are even quicker to fabricate, something like 9 seconds instead of 15.
I definitely agree that crafting while hiking is the way to go; just cranking out R. C. Staves while doing my Harvester rounds the XP just rolls in.
