Thread: Resource question.
Bah, ok try this again..
Say im lookin for copper and im on tatooine near mos eisley, i pull up my survey tool and its not even listed as an option. does that mean that copper is depleated for the whole planet, or just for the mos eisley area? And when that happens, you basically have to move to another planet, right?
It means it's just depleted for the general area of your surveyor. You know how you have to set your surveying limit (when you first start it, and when you level up in surveying)? Well, that is the area you are searching, and unless you are alevel 4 surveyor, you aren't coming anywhere near covering all of that area. If you walk out a ways, you will probably find a vein to follow... then again, I've never surveyed on Tattooine, so there may really not be any copper there. Never know until you try. Hope this helped!
PS if there isn't a noob artisan guide, I think I might create one.
If it's not even an option then I would say there is no copper available. If you are out of range then you can still select it, but will get a message saying "Resource not located.".

That is not correct, if it is not listed as an option, it is not present on the planet at the particular time, you will, need to go to a different planet or wait til the resourses shift again.

If that is not correct, then explain why in the same day without a resouce shift I managed to get a spot in one area to list the missing resource when in another area it was not on the list at all (same planet, mind you)? Was that a glitch?
I don't mean this in a contradicting way. I really want to know, because I was under the impression based on that experience that if I really wanted to take the time to go search out the general vicinity, the resource would appear again.
Further questions to this subject:
Does this happen eventually to all resources, or are the some resources that never go away (and which are these, if so)?
Do the previously missing resources always come back at the next shift or does it sometimes take a few cycles?
Is the cycle of missing and reappearing resources regular or random (i.e. do the same resources disappear every time, or is it just whatever whenever)?
Do the cycles vary by planet so that at least a planetary patern can be established, or is it random galaxy-wide, and is the shift the same on every server (i.e. on naboo in every galaxy, lene wind disappears from the list at the exact same time)?

The survey tool will only list minerals available on the planet. It does not recognize "regions". The reason your copper appeared in one area, and not the last area is because it randomly "spawned" into existance for the planet. If you went back to the first place, it would be there too.

ALL resources turn over. They all have different turnover rates though. After a couple weeks, don't expect to see ANY of the same resources on a planet that were once there. Also, resources can expire and/or appear at any time of day, and do so, usually, one at a time.

Once a resource is gone, it's gone forever. What I mean is . . . the particular TYPE of a given resource. For instance, on Corellia, there was a Fiberplast called "Hoaheaq", which expired last week. Corellia eventually got NEW fiberplast . . . but they had different names and stats. Hoaheaq will never be seen on Corellia again.

Check the Dev Tracker for more information on that. In SHORT, it's random with set guidlines. Any given resource has a turnover period of 5-8 days or so.
I'm not sure if all servers have the same shift . . . but I'm 96% sure . . . that each server is individual.
Hope this was helpful.
Thanks for the thourough explanation LordGriffin. I guess it was just a glitch that it reapeared on my list, or maybe it was a glitch that it disappeared in the first place, because there wasn't a resource shift that day. I didn't mean to confuse the issue. I actually searched out another string about this last night and learned all of that, but thanks for taking the time to explain it again.

Tried that, but can't find a list of previous spawns. Thanks for the tip though!
